Is nudity a norm in movies now?

Is nudity getting more and more used in movies and tv than begore... I mean take examples of the movie Red Sparrow or Game of thrones.. Even the A list stars are doing it like Jlaw and Maisie Williams.

I understand nudity like Scarlett Johansson did in Under the Skin where she being an Alien need to show that aspect.

Do you think some celebs get naked too easily or the movies doesn't demand it?

  • Movies have had nudity pretty regularly since the mid-60s. It's hardly anything new, and it's really only in North America that it's even an issue. Hell, in Europe, you have nudity in TV commercials! No one cares.

But, part of the reason for the explosion of non-traditional movie studios (HBO really kicked it off 30 years ago, but now Netflix and Amazon and others) is because a lot of people want to see "grown-up" shows that are as gritty and real as their subject matter, and don't want them to be dumbed down for network TV. People who watched Game Of Thrones or Shameless or Spartacus didn't want a PG13 version of an R-rated story - and the ratings will tell you that people watch, and even pay extra to watch, grown-up versions of those stories.

  • Nudity is more acceptable now, but often is used as a gimmick to sell the movie without any value in the movie. It is not so much more in the movies as it is more in the TV shows, like GofT. Two drawbacks I see are that many actors do not want to appear nude and lose the chance for that role, and it bothers many potential viewers.
I personally am not bothered by it. I see nothing wrong with nudity.

  • GoT is not really a good example, I tend to not consider most things on HBO to be real movies just less tasteful and overly long porn. I haven't seen a lot of nudity in the movies I have been watching with a few exceptions but the amount of nudity I see in movies now is about the same as when I was a little girl

    • But i feel Nuditu in Red Sparrow was a bit unnecessaty while Under the skin neede it

  • No, having an LGBTQ character is the new norm in tv shows or movies. Everything needs one.

  • I think it’s easier now, many actors will have some nude scenes, especially earlier in their career, some themselves, some with a body double. I still it’s un evenly balanced towards female nudity, girls (and gays) could get some more eye candy too.

  • That's the only good thing they can do nowadays due to the lack of great stories, actors and lines... Nobody will be at the level of Schwarzenigger, Stallone or Harrison Ford anymore.

    • In a way i agree... its crap most times... can you message.. wana ask something?

  • What is wrong with Nudity? Society had sexualized nudity, and nudity is more about being comfortable with your own body than sex.

    • message n i will ask something about it... i didn't say its wrong

  • Maise was a body double, FWIW

    • Really? Can i ask a question in message if u message

    • @bangyourhead No, was just herself, she only had something skin colored that covered her boobs, you can see it easily on screen but the ass is totally Maisie

    • Maisie looked real though... i mean not a body double... can you message.. wana ask something?
