In Norway (my country) it's illegal to buy sex (punishable with hundreds of dollars in fine and sometimes 1 - 2 years imprisonment), but it's legal to sell it. Prostitutes have to pay taxes although buying is illegal. They usually lose in courts, have no right to the same welfare as people in normal jobs etc. I'm sitting on the fence on if it should be legalized or not.

  • Prostitution should be legalized and regulated, similar to Australian rules where a woman can either be an independent provider OR work in a licensed brothel, but no street walking, no multiple workers outside of licensed brothels, and no pimping.

Anti-prostitution laws haven't stopped or even really slowed down prostitution, but they HAVE made it far more dangerous for the women, have greatly enabled pimping, have helped fund other criminal enterprise, and have indirectly encouraged trafficking and underage prostitutes. By legalizing 85% of the current market, that would give vice cops the ability to focus their energies and resources on the real problems: pimps, traffickers, and organized crime.

Such a system wouldn't be perfect - you will never 100% eliminate pimps or trafficking - but the current system is pretty awful at controlling it and makes it worse for everyone involved except for many of the criminals.

It's very similar to alcohol prohibition: you had brewers/distributors blowing up buildings and cars and shooting people on the streets (including plenty of innocent bystanders), and lots of associated crime and corruption. Once alcohol was legal again, that stuff stopped, and while we still have some alcohol-related crime, it's not nearly as bad as it was, and the police can focus on the real problem areas. You don't have the Coors guy shooting at the Bud guy in the 7-11 parking lot.

  • I believe prostitution should be legal, and I lean towards only brothels, but i could be convinced that independant prostitution should as well, I just see that as riskier for the prostitute.

If it was legal you could collect taxes just like any other business. You could regulate things like std testing, proper identification of the patrons so you don't get seedy clientele. You could also provide security to the prostitutes, providing a safe space for them to conduct their business. Plus this would deal a major blow to sex trafficking, as it would be harder to pimp out women if they're using regulated, supervised channels.

  • I think it serves a vital service to be very honest. The women should be regulated for health and pay taxes. There should be systems in place to keep them safe. Heck rapid testing can be regulated for John too if that's feisable. There are plenty of examples of parking sports designed to keep the woman safe in a sex worker transaction in a car but brothels might also work.

  • It should be legal and very heavily regulated. The reason it should be legal is because people will do it anyway but legalizing it makes it possible to regulate and hopefully reduce stds and abuse

  • I thought this was a pretty good explanation as to why it should be legal. " Selling is legal and fucking is legal. Why isn't selling fucking legal?"

    • The reason prostitutes and sellers goes to prison are because of human trafficking, I've heard. If the prostitutes goes to prison, they can't sell or get used more and the traffickers finds it less tempting to trafficking more people. When the customers gets imprisoned or fined, there would be fewer people who buys. Then there would be less human trafficking and victims, they says.

  • I live in Australia and brothels are entirely legal, no punishment for either party. I know brothels certainly are, unsure as to individual prostitutes but the logic is that brothels are safer as there are legal regular STI tests of all prostitutes, none are forced into prostitution, it must be consensual, and women can be protected if their client becomes hostile as they hire security teams/ bouncers like at night clubs. Safer for the prostitutes and the patrons.

  • I agree with brothels. There is too much risk with independent.

  • If its regulated that all participants are there of their own free will, its a victim-less and should not be a crime.

  • In the UK solo escorts are perfectly legal but brothels are not legal.

Prostitution is the oldest trade and its time it was accepted as a proper job.

If it was legalised health and welfare of those working in the trade could be properly monitored.
Trafficking could be clamped down on there seems to be loads of girls that could be illegal immigrants abusing the cash in hand service to work tax free.

  • I don't see a problem with two CONSENTING adult having sex or one paying the other for it, so I think it should be legal.

  • It’s the oldest profession in the world.
Just because money changes hands for any “favours” what’s the problem?
I think they should lower their prices though!! 🤔

  • No. It should be legal, regulated and taxed, with heavy punishments for those working outside the system

  • Whatttt? Why should it be illegal and why are you against us huhh

  • I do believe it should be illegal but when it comes to punishment I wouldn't put them in jail.

  • Prostitution and Pornography, and the punishment should be life sentence for pimps and pornographers
The women should have the money they made confiscated. and have to do 1,000 hours of community service.
The men who buy prostitutes or are in pornos should have to face 4 years in prison.
Men who watch pornos should be fined up to $50,000. If the porno is especially reprobate, years in prison.

    • Why do you think so?

    • It degrades women, it promotes adultery, deviant sexual behavior, and sexualizes the youth. It removes men from their masculine duty

    • We should ban religion, religion degrades women

    • Show All
  • I think it should be legal. But not pimps though. Pimps are fucktards who abuse women. But prostitution as a personal choice yeah. Everybody has their own life and as long as it doesn't effect others why should anyone care?

  • i don't care i don't wanna fuck a hooker anyway xD it could be illegal for all i care.

  • No consensual sex between adults should be illegal

  • Definitely illegal. It brings nothing but pain to the viewers, regardless of feeling good in the moment. I’m sure it’s terrible in the long run for the actors, too. As far as who should actually be punished is quite debatable... perhaps not the viewers. Just getting rid of the source should suffice.

  • Yes. completely against legalization.

  • It's illegal here.

  • No..

  • It should be legal...
at least we males need prostitutes.
