Do you find this sexually arousing?

My best friend @lewisvenable has been wanting me to watch "I Spit On Your Grave" for a few months now. It's a movie about a woman who gets brutally gang-raped and sodomized, and as revenge, she brutally slaughters her rapists.

On Halloween, my other friend wanted to watch a horror movie together, so I figured we'd watch I Spit On Your Grave. He said that he got a boner when seeing her commit the murders.
My sister told me that I need to get some normal friends LMAO

  • Fear, pain, anxiety-causing situations, none of that is at all arousing for me.
But in regards to this example, I have a theory. It's most likely that his body did somewhat react to the earlier rape scene. Hard not to, violent or not, for some people. (More on that in a moment.) By the time the girl gets her revenge, retribution, satisfaction, the audience is well with her, on her side, and they want it too. It is both emotionally satisfying, and I think the idea of a very strong girl/women is also coming into play. Your male friend clearly likes the fact that she is strong, tough, and able to take care of herself. Femininity and sweetness and all sorts of other typically 'female' traits are great, but there is also that element of self-sufficiency and independnce, that is appealing to all, no matter gender, and often age.
Also, you may be interested to know that there was a university study (I forget by which university - I would not be able to find it again), I have mentioned it here once before on gag... about playing graphic, aggressive, violent imagery to young females, while they were hooked up to sensors and probes which measured their sexual and physiological respones (genitals, heart rate, temperature). It also recorded facial expression and body language as they sat in chairs, staring at the monitor. The interesting thing was, the girls mostly unilaterally claimed they were not aroused (I believe they had a dial which they turned) and there were interviews conducted afterwards. But their bodies spoke otherwise.
Why did this happen? The scientists did not know conclusively, but their theory is that because there is often sexual violence against women, and there is nothing preventing a cruel man from entering her, aroused or not, there is some physiological advantage to women being aroused, even in negative situations - the act will be less painful (of course this does nothing to prevent the emotional trauma that will last well beyond the incident.)
So knowing this, and that we have been around, in this same basic form, for 50,000 years, it is not unreasonable to assume our biology is at work. Sex is sex, wanted or not. I am somewhat disturbed that any men (or women) could gain any pleasure from watching rape, but we have not been as relatively docile as we are today. Our bodies do react to very base feelings and images.
However I do agree with @jamie05rhs rape is not entertainment, and should not be a regular theme involving self-gratification. Find other sources. Arousal can come in many forms (a girl or woman who is strong and knows how to kick ass and take care of herself is nothing but great), but violence is not something we need more of. Retribution as a resolution for violence is a less evolved means of getting over something. Justice, and looking inwards at how to process the situation, and outwards at society and why these evils happen... these would better serve the individual, and society. Glorification for entertainment is suspect.

    • "... could gain any pleasure from watching rape *and murder..." (that should have said)

    • @AmandaYVR I wasn't saying that @mistixs was entertained by the topic. She herself said (elsewhere on this post) that the movie was difficult for her to watch. And don't forget the fact that she was nagged and arm-twisted into watching it in the first place. My comment that I wrote was only due to the fact that she has posted a lot of rape questions recently. (But of course, that's my problem, not hers; if I don't want to read questions about rape then I am free to go elsewhere and read someone else's posts.). But I was only giving her a hard time in a joking way (kind of).

    • Also, @AmandaYVR, killing rapists also helps society. Just saying.

  • Lol was this movie based on Twilight? That's literay the background of Rosalie 😅

    • Did you read the description?

    • How else would I have found out the plot and made that comparison?

  • Wait- hold on.

    1. Being turned on does not necessarily equal having a boner. You can be turned on without a boner. Also, sometimes that phrase is used figuratively and doesn't refer to sexual arousal at all. (Such as being turned on by an automobile.). ... Though I don't know if your friend was being serious or being facetious about the erection. (Unless you personally saw the bulge.)

    2. Yes, I would most definitely get satisfaction from seeing a rapist get murdered. (As long as it wasn't too graphic because I can't handle graphic violence in general. I saw Kill Bill and almost got sick.)

    3. Lewis needs to chill on the rape stuff. You can tell him I said that.

    • :'( the betrayal

    • Lmao. Sorry, @lewisvenable. 😛

    • Thanks for the MHO, @mistixs. :). Very kind of you.

  • I think that there is something about a woman taking revenge. It's powerful , it's kind of like a female terminator like the bad girl in terminator 3.. there is a sexiness to it especially when what's she's wearing remains sexy. I personally can't watch the movie for the rape that takes place but it's empowering to see men lose their power at their death. It's sexually arousing because taking lives is seen as a guy thing while women can be seen as wanting peace so it becomes kind of like a fetish

    • Did you vote?

    • I just said sometimes, it's less about murders per say and more about women fighting I've enjoyed the recent female versions of taken and it's attractive Another good one close to that idea is red sparrow with Jennifer Lawrence in fact I'm watching her in mockingjay part 2 now :)

  • A boner by seeing killings - God saves his girl.

  • No but that movie is pretty good.

  • The murderous acts I don't find arousing, likewise, an image that I would normally find hot completely turns me off if blood plays a part in the image.

Yet a smoking hot girl with a gun or a sword. Total turn on.

  • I get very turned on by rapes in movies

    • this question is about murders, not rapes

  • I love murder shows and movies

  • Your friends are pretty funny

  • Kind of sadistic to be turned on by murder isn’t it? I don't know

  • Maybe you aroused him and he just didn't want to admit it? If not wonder if that's a sign of a psychopath. Do you think it would have been worse if he got a boner when she was brutally raped?

    • No he has no problem admitting it when I arouse him, trust me xD He's gotten boners to murder scenes before

    • as for being a sign of being a psychopath, I don't think his boner was because of the people suffering and being murdered, but because of the woman's dominance. Like the last time he got aroused by a murder scene, he said it was because the female murderer "looked so excited" and sadistic.

    • A lot of serial killers got aroused watching things die. Some would orgasm as their victims died in front of them. I'm not judging. I just don't understand it

  • I find it plain strange and creepy someone would be sexually aroused by that movie. I’ve seen all three. Be careful with this guy. Something’s off there

  • I never get turned on by any kind of murder or suffering.
I remember that I did like the main actress's butt in the nude scene in that movie.
The idea that she had been raped ruined it for me though.
I just fast forwarded through all the revenge/murder crap.

    • "I just fast forwarded through all the revenge/murder crap" Isn't that pretty much the entire plot? :P

    • I just remember seeing a nice butt on the cover of the movie. I skipped ahead until the naked butt scene. Then I skipped through the rest of the movie. I could pretty much tell what was going on even in fast forward.

    • Pornhub dude. Also, when you see an actress's butt in a movie it's not the actress. Whenever you can't see her face it's a body double.

  • When this guy finally goes off the deep end, people will ask if his prior behavior held any clues.

Back to you for a decision...

  • No. There is nothing arousing about that.

  • Love the original movie and remake

    Also the sequels to both

    • It was hard for me to watch 😭

  • Your friend definitely got some problems.

  • It's not as much the act as the actress giving him boner..

    • Nah, it's the act. It's happened before with actresses whom he didn't initially find very attractive; he got a boner when they started acting violent.

    • He got boner from the rape act or her taking revenge act!..

    • The vengeance. He was aroused by her dominance. When the rape was happening, he asked if he could fast-forward because it was making him sick.

  • It's literally torture porn, which is not to say that it's a bad movie. I enjoyed it and a lot of similar films in the "righteous vengeance" genre (I spit on your grave, last house on the left, straw dogs, irreversible, etc). The formula is to show you outrageous violation to make the revenge at the end feel justified and satisfying. Only irreversible turns that formula on its head (literally, by showing you the scene backwards to take all context and justification out of the revenge sequence and see how you judge it without the back story to frame the brutality). But I've never enjoyed or gotten arousal from the rape/torture/murder sequences

    • Sadly in Irreversible they got the wrong man though. From what I remember the guy they killed was still a rapist, just not the one they were looking for

    • Yeah it really subverts the vigilante agenda that usually fuels these types of film

  • As someone who's been raped I hate the movie

    • Yeah the movie was difficult for me to watch. Are you okay with the revenge parts?

  • I can't watch movies like that.

  • So... How do feminists feel about the film? I'm very curious.

Cause there's a rape scene, but the woman gets revenge.

    • It was protested by many feminists

    • My feminist colleagues generally object to rape being used as a plot device.

    • Oh was it? Cause I don't think it was brought up in the news yet. Only thing I keep seeing is how people are either hating or loving the Joker movie.
