  • Well that's contradictory. you cannot be okay with any and all types of sexual activities and also be okay with them as long as they are safe. Studies (as in multiple studies) have shown quite conclusively that casual sex is damaging to people, especially women, and as such to be okay with promiscuity is to be okay with something that harms others.

One psychologist suggested that a woman sleeping around should be treated as just another form of self harm as in most cases women who sleep around have poor relations with their father (if any), have experienced prepubescent sex (sex before they where ready for it) and as many studies have shown it increases anxiety and depression in women, increases the odds of them cheating and/or divorcing later in life, increases their dissatisfaction with long term relationships (which statistically would otherwise bring greater happiness) etc.

So you cannot be sex positive in the way they have defined it as sex is not without consequences (and the idea that it is, is quite absurd (its like saying that alcohol in small quantities is not particularly harmful ergo casual drinking should be treated identically to binge drinking, drinking casually and responsibly should be treated equivalently to drinking in order to drown out your feelings)).

Do I think that sex shouldn't be shamed? Of course, their is nothing wrong with sex itself. Do I think that a couple should be free to have sex and to explore their sexuality in what ever fashion they wish? Yes. Do I support the ability for people to have casual sex? Yes again, BUT that is different then supporting the act itself.

I think drugs should not be illegal, you should be allowed to do with your body as you will and the government should not have the right to tell you otherwise. But that doesn't mean I support the use of drugs (I don't do any drugs including alcohol). Same with promiscuity, you should be allowed to do it if you want but I will not stand by and pretend like it doesn't have (provable) detrimental affects on the individual.

Its no different then some one who is morbidly obese, just because its perfectly fine and healthy to eat (even sugar and fat have a place in our diets), doesn't mean binge eating a bucket of lard with a pound of sugar every single chance you get and especially when your depressed (self medicating) is a healthy option.
