Do you agree with Germaine Greer that rape is just bad sex and women are drama queens?
She said it's outrageous that women claim to be traumatized for life and have PTSD as a result of rape because there are actual victims of PTSD like soldiers who saw their friends get killed and maimed, and even soldiers who lost their arms and legs. She said comparing this with a few minutes of bad sex is insulting to real victims of trauma.

  • I agree with her. Women experience rape much more than men experience combat. Yet men who experience combat are expected to come back to civilized society as well after stripping much of themselves away to be beasts that can kill and deal with it, maybe even enjoy it.

    Women commit suicide far less than man do. The numbers of women committing suicide is damned near insignificant when comparing it to combat veterans that do. Or homelessness numbers and unemployment of the same.

    The one thing I would disagree with is rape is a trauma. There are wide support networks to deal with it though. No one really knows what the hell to do about PTSD except, well, keep sending them into battle. When you're a beast you feel no pain from feelings. No one would ever suggest to a woman who has been violently raped that she continue to do so because "we can't figure anything else out".

    Veterans bleed, die, and get fucked in the head on orders, then when there's no more fight left physically or mentally, just like a pulped orange it's time to get tossed.

  • I do see how rape can be traumatizing but I do think that it is blown out of proportion. My ex for example said she'd rather die than be raped. I think that is a gross exaggeration. For example, the scene in Game of Thrones where Sansa was raped made women rage and quit the show yet they were totally fine with Theon Greyjoy being castrated.

    Our society treats a vagina as if it's a goldmine and anyone who gets it without "earning it" has partook in the greatest abomination in human history. So is rape bad? Hell yes it is. Are rapists terrible people? Hell yes they are. Can rape affect you emotionally? Yes. However more often than not, I think it's incredibly exaggerated.

    • Exactly what I'm thinking! Women are fuckin weird. Cut off a penis and they're like "Bahaha what's the big deal it's just his junk lol". But slide a penis in their vagina for a few minutes without paying them first and they're like "OMG whatthe fuckzyfbidjdJDHFH! This is the most horrifying and traumatizing thing I've ever seen in my life!" I think the real reason women are so hysterical about rape is they have a visceral hatred and disgust of the penis, so they only tolerate it near them if they get paid for it. Rape is sex that the man doesn't pay for, it's sex he takes for free. We need to stop pretending that modern crap they call "female sexuality" is real. Sex is a transaction. Only men tryly want and desire it.

I just think that people blow it out of proportion claiming they'd rather be dead or to be ok with a scene of a man being castrated but not a scene of a girl being raped. Anyway, I can't say I feel 100% with you on your views. There are some crazy women out there but they don't represent all women. I also do think that rape and rapists are terrible, just not worse than literal DEATH or castration. I'd rather someone force themself up my butthole for 5 minutes than to be killed or have my dick chopped off, just sayin...

I also think she is asking the question to show that feminism today has become hyper reactionary and it is at the point to question anything a feminist says is the same as advocating for rape. Feminists are becoming irrelevant in today’s world.

During their fertile age women's brains are constantly flushed with huge amounts of estrogen, and this estrogen gives them a visceral hatred, fear, and disgust of the penis and of the male sexual lust. These feelings protect women from unplanned pregnancies and genetically inferior males. Once menopause kicks in the cloud of estrogen clears away from the brain leading to more clear thought on the matter. This is why Germaine Greer in the past used to say the typical female things like "the penis is a dangerous weapon" but in old age she completely changed tune.

    1) rape is not necessary "bad" sex because there are instances that the victim orgasms.

    2) and the orgasm was so pleasurable that she remembered for life and felt guilty whenever she had another orgasm close to it when with her husband or willing boyfriend.

    (Hence many found it so difficult to enjoy sex in their adult life.)

    3) rape is forced sex, when the victim is unwilling.

    4) the memory of being forced, possibly with bruises and pain, plus the possible "good sex" described above together create a lifelong trauma.

    It could be brought to mind whenever she is about to have sex. Whenever she feels her husband or boyfriend she is reminded of the force and pleasure.

    This results in her becoming unwilling for sex during to the memory of being forced and she shame she felt.

    Very bad for her and her husband or boyfriend.

  • There is different degrees of reactions to rape depending on the brutality of it. To compare rape to bad sex if the most f'd up crap I've ever heard. Having bad sex with a limp, small penis not the same as a woman held down and gang raped by multiple men.

  • I know nothing about this lady, or what she said. I do know, that when raped, it makes a lot of sense, that many women would have PTSD, and it effects them to at least some degree, for the rest of their lives.

    • Active: Because rape is normally a very traumatic event, and can cause severe emotional issues and upsets, as well as physical injuries. This is the kind of 'event' that often causes PTSD.

    When they are young, they mostly roll around in books. Once they reach maturity, they are productive and fun. And when they are old, they tend to get grumpy and vocal about their contrarian opinion against established wisdom. Why? they are insecure about their legacy, what they will be remembered for.

    This lady probably did some notable thing earlier in her career, now she reached the phase of confusing "how things are" vs "how I believe things should be". Even physicists, who are several orders of magnitude more useful to society, are still affected by the same pathological condition of old age. Steven Weinberg for example had a stellar career in quantum physics, now he's saying quantum physics is deeply flawed LOL
    ... but at least an old physicist understands that his objection to established theory is a philosophical disagreement, and not a disagreement about facts.
