What are your thoughts on dress codes/ rules on clothing?

At my sixth form were allowed to wear what we want as long as we aren't showing bum , boobs or belly. So no booty shorts , low cut tops or crop tops without something high waisted to make up the difference. However If people don't follow this at most the head of sixth form will give a little notice in an assembly.
If you have felt with dress codes stricter did you find it sexist either in the way girls are made to feel embarrassed or boys to feel bad or told they can't control themselves.

Just to be clear I do comply with the rules I was just wondering in terms of others opinions of the codes.

Just to reiterate it's a rough guideline at my sixth form where I am 18 and doing A levels and going to university in September. Not a child. Am capable of knowing what is right and wrong to wear to different situations.

  • Don't your skirts have to be longer than your fingers, when down at your sides too. That's how most-all schools that aren't colleges are. They believe that the skirt should be longer than the finger because otherwise it's "too distracting", why, I don't know but, that's how they feel.

I think that dress codes are a good idea, but, I think that they should be updated from time to time.

    • In younger years with proper uniform yeah it was just above your knee but that was always problematic for the taller girls I knew not me personally because I'm shorter. But it never really stopped any of the girls rolling it shorter 😂

    • Which of course is wrong

    • Yeah but it's kind of quintessentially part of secondary school in the uk like teachers constantly telling the lads to put their ties on and tuck their shirt. What I didn't get was why pencil skirts were banned because they actually stay down enough to cover you properly on stairs , given that it's rare to go up stairs in the whole of secondary school in the uk and not see a girls skirt being to short and floppy to cover much

  • All through my school career we never had to wear a uniform. Right after I graduated... they had uniforms lol

  • Unfortunately you're going to school. So you've got to respect their dress codes. Most work places have them as you get older, so you'll have to just get used to it.

Sorry if it sounds harsh, but it's the world we live in.

  • Well that's embarrassing. People shouldn't be that scared of skin. Women in media and men are always half naked. So why can't we do the same 😂🤣

    • Thanks for MHO ☺️

  • It's simply setting you up for working in a workplace where they have such rules

  • The purpose of school is learning. The purpose of work is working. Displaying your sexuality in those places can be very distracting for guys. The dress code for both should be as conservative as church. If you want to display your femininity in other places, I will look and welcome it. If you want to do that, do it at the club, beach or health club where it is part of the intent.

  • Dress codes are dumb. My school is pretty chill and they let you get away with even some of what you mentioned.

  • Follow the rules kidlette.

    • On update... If you know better then you don't need to ask. Always dress for the occasion. ALWAYS.

  • In school's and in the work place their's dress code's and rule's and we should follow these rule's. But at home or around the home these's dress code's don't apply at home I'm completely comfortable in my bare skin. :)

  • I think there should be a dress code

  • Life isn’t fair. Schools have the right to set dress code. Most complaints about dress codes is just whining.

  • I'm very comfortable in my skin and I'd be very comfortable being in only that and nothing else

  • I feel that dress codes are a necessary social construct. A lot can be said about respect for the institution by the way that a person is dressed.

  • It depends on the person. I personally don't mind nudity.

  • I hate places with dress codes. I can understand having to cover the privates but it is too strict.
