There are criminals everywhere, even in the military. I'd expect that the instance of rape in the military is far lower than in the civilian population (and the penalties are much more harsh for military rapists), but there are always a few who just don't care about the rules or the consequences. Just as there will always be thieves, and always people committing fraud, and always people who are violent. Even though the military does its best to weed them out, some are good at hiding it until they have an "opportunity".

Again, though, I'd speculate that, in the US military at least, a woman is likely to be significantly safer compared to the general population.

Now, if you're asking about women who are captured by the enemy in combat? In that case, all rules are off. We rarely fight countries with western values, and the people we do fight tend to look at even their own women as 2nd-class citizens or even property, so you can imagine how little they value an enemy woman. And the history of the world is full of the victors of battles "raping and pillaging" - that phrase didn't just get made up out of nowhere; it was literally standard practice for millenia.

so everyone is saying the same more or less... its the same as any other walk of life but no one mentioned that women in the military who get captured have a higher likelehood of getting raped as prisoners of war... overall the odds seem greater when you factor that in

I don't know about any cases. We get extensives anti rape/sexual harassment training. We call it SHARP and we get classes on it multiple times a year. I think it's some bogus shit made to push anti Military propaganda.

It still does happen but a lot less than what it used to be.

The main difference between rape within the military and in the civilian world is in the military it used to be very difficult to get a conviction and even if the rapist admitted to it there may not be any conviction at all.

I used to be involved in a military unit where you could never truly be "one of them" until and unless you've raped. Thankfully the person that headed that unit was DDed 2 years ago.
