Christians, Do You Think Masturbation is as bad as Premarital Sex in God's Eyes?

Christians, do you think that masturbation is as immoral in God's eyes as sex outside of marriage? I'm starting to think it probably is. Considering that the bible says that someone who looks at a woman to lust has already committed adultery in his heart. Since it's the same core sin, lust.
I've been guilty of it too, I'm just wondering. I'm starting to feel bad about it..

  • Nobody has to think that masturbation is bad. It is bad in God's eyes because it's sex with yourself. Masturbation is spiritual fornication. And fornication as you know it's having sex outside of marriage. If you know you're starting to feel bad about it then that's the Holy Spirit convicting you of the sin and that means that you need to repent and Ashley change.

A lot of people especially a lot of lukewarm Christians will tell you that is not when it's actually true. There is another scripture that speaks about this in 1st Corinthians chapter 6. Remember that Jesus have bought us for a price. A body should be a temple for the Holy Spirit dwelling. The Holy Spirit cannot dwell in unclean body. If you have a desire for a sexual relationship that's what getting married is for as it says in 1st Corinthians chapter 7.

  • Yes it is. Been many year masturbation free and feeling much better than before.

    • Feeling better in what way?

    • Better self esteem in many contexts

  • That’s hard to answer because the Bible doesn’t specifically condemn masturbation. Plus, within the Christian community there are those who consider it a sin and those who don’t.

On a side note, Matthew 5:28 has been interpreted as meaning that pornography is a sin.

    • I personally try my best to abstain from masturbation just in case it’s a sin.

  • Well it is a sin to masterbate and lusting over a woman or a man because of it even worse.

Jesus will forgive you of course.
But we have to overcome the temptation. Sexusl sins are hard to overcome bur it can be done.

  • yes, but I think that is misguided.

"No sexual immorality". That's a tall order isn't it... for fallen beings in a fallen world.
I really think what Jesus was talking about is just telling us the truth... of God... which is love. If you want to be hearing from, responding to the call of God, etc.. then don't do sinful things... they mess up your emotions! Simple as that. Maybe it's that simple.

If you sin, you fall in to those other emotions and you are separated from God because it's all sin. Wallah... don't over think it:)

  • "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." -Matthew 5:28

    • Yes, that's the verse I was referring to, but how would you answer the question?

    • That really depends. This verse doesn't say anything about actual masturbation, merely looking at a woman lustfully. I guess I would have to say that the act of masturbation, in and of itself, is not sinful. However, it becomes sinful if you do so while looking at, or thinking about, another person lustfully.

    • I guess I was assuming that the masturbation was accompanied by lust.

  • Probably it is a sin, but as I grow older I am less and less certain of it.

In either case this is one sin I cannot stop committing. It is stronger than me. And I have embraced it now and I enjoy it.

  • Neither are a sin

  • I wouldn't say as bad but it's not good.

  • Yes, lust is bad. But let's not blow things out of proportion. You're not doing anything with or to anyone else. I think there's a big difference between personal sin and causing someone else to sin.

  • Taken from Wikipedia:

    ChristianityEdit

Today, Roman Catholic (including Eastern Catholic), Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox and many Protestant Christians consider masturbation to be a sin.

    • Thanks, I totally agree that it's a sin. I was just wondering about the gravity of it, if it's on the same level as premarital sex.

    • A sin is a sin.

  • The sinful Lust probably pertains to someone already married but developes a lustful eye to someone else. It can't possibly be sinful to be lustful while single as that is how love starts i think.

  • No. Masturbation is a natural human phenomenon. Sleeping around can cause trouble, abortions and STDs.

  • Nope sorry

  • I'm a Christian and I honestly think God doesn't care in the least about my sexual habits.

  • I don’t think masturbation is bad at all! I think it’s very healthy in fact

    • even morally?

    • Yes even morally

  • Don't know about Christianity , but yes it's a very big sin in Islam

    • Both masturbation and premarital sex are big sins in Islam, or only premarital sex?

    • Both are sin... in Islam it's a sin too if you look any strange lady with a sexual view before marriage

    • Masturbate destroy peace of mind according to islaam

    • Show All
  • Not as bad but still nothing good, you have to confess and try to not repeat.

  • Sin is sin.
but premarital sex, can have a worst outcome.

    • Agreed, I'm just asking in terms of how immoral it is

    • Jesus, wouldn’t have mentioned if it wasn’t bad. I think if you combine it with watching porn it’s harmful to your soul.
