  • Short answer: no. Gender as a term was invented nearly a century ago for people too prudish to say the word 'sex' in conversation so they created the word 'gender' to replace it. Making them synonymous with one another.

    Long answer: yes. Today with our understanding of gender, a persons identity based on their form of self expression, we understand that roles are malleable and should be. We understand that people should be able to freely express themselves in just about any way shape or form that they please. Gender expression is comprised of ones masculine and feminine traits. However, someone who is female expressing more masculine traits does not make them a male.

    With trans people, they transition from one gender to the next. We accept transitional therapy because of the characteristics that change and the realization that women and men are in fact different which is why they have to transition to begin with. Now i wish they didn't have to. It makes things far too complicated. Even for doctors. But because of their therapy and their transition they have essentially become a third gender. And then there are people who are intersex. They are also a third gender. But it does not delegitimize the idea that there are two genders in reality since an abnormality (9 fingers) does not disprove the fact that evolutionary people have a typical set of rules (10 fingers).

    • Just so I understand you correctly, you are saying that people can become whatever they want, regardless of what science proves they are? XX / XY is a definitive. You can't change that. And pretending you can only proves you are very confused. People have been male or female since the beginning of time and no amount of therapy/surgery will make any difference. If you intentionally trick someone into believing you are what you are not, you should prosecuted for fraud.

  • Biologically there are only male and female genders within the human race, however the only one's who can probably class as a third gender are Hermaphrodites who possess both male and female genitalia...

    anyone who claims to be of any of the recently created gender's are merely referencing orientation, not gender...
    a sex change or transexual is not a new gender nor is that actually being biologically the gender they are trying to pass themselves off as... the reason for this is due to the fact that they can surgically alter their appearance but their biology would be their original gender they were born as.

    people can appear to be something else but look under the costume and they will be just themselves...

    however what people do with their own bodies is up to them, but factually speaking there are only 2

  • No. I don't even believe in the term "gender". I don't think it's a real thing. There are two sexes - male and female. "Gender" is a word used by people who claim that identifying as male and female is separate from sex - the idea that a man can identify as a woman and vice versa. I mean they can call themselves whatever they want I guess, but that doesn't make it true.

  • There are 2 sexes, however gender is what we as people collectively define it. If society as a whole has decided that gender in fluid then it is because we decided it is.

    There being multiple genders and changing gender roles doesn't change the way I view myself, I'm still a man and am happy being a man, but others dont feel that way. All you gotta do is be aware that other people feel differently about their gender and try not to be an asshole toward them. It's that simple.

  • So to clarify I don’t really care if someone wants to dress/act like the other sex, that’s their body and they have the right to do what they want with it.

    That said gender is just a description of the actions associated with each sex, it varies from culture to culture but so do clothes and food. Ie a woman’s dance on Baffin Island is vastly different than a woman’s dance in Papua New Guinea. You can’t be a gender any more than you can be a basketball but you are male or female. We aren’t an extremely sexually dimorphic ape like orangutan or gorillas but we nonetheless are sexually dimorphic.

    Hermaphrodites with chromosome defects (ie not xx or xy) are the only real exclusion to this rule. Though i believe the vast majority are infertile.
