He'll also want to be the best he can be with/for you (as you do him right?). So you have to try and convince him you are or explain it better to him. It may still be hard for him to understand, but depends how convincing you are. Also, I don't know if it's ever happened for him (it can with us sometimes as well, although not as common), just remind him of that also.
