What do you think of these two guys?

The Roman war hero Marc Antony and his best guy friend Curia were condemned in the Senate for kissing in public “in a manner designed to shock and offend the glorious people of Rome. These things, if done at all, ought to be done in secret.” The condemnation included a plea to the highborn girls of Rome (they didn’t really care what the lowborn girls did) not to sleep with or marry Antony and Curia “until they stop their disgusting and immoral behavior.”

It didn’t work; both those guys hooked up with A LOT of girls. Antony himself said the whole thing was a joke, intended to amuse and possibly arouse his adoring followers (the way girls sometimes make out with their girlfriends when they go clubbing today). A couple years later, Curia was disemboweled in battle with the king of Numidia and Antony fell hard for Cleopatra, the love of his life (though he couldn’t marry her because he was already married to someone else by then). Sic transit Gloria...

  • I don't really think much of Marc Antony. I do think it he was a tad gay based on the depictions of cleo. I could understand trolling to get women excited (Japanese women like bi-dudes) but I also think certain aspects of culture back-then created an unhealthy beauty standard that people keep going back to.

Skinny women who look like teenage boys (like models in the 80's) or fat women but without breasts or an ass (see Asian trends of the past). I'm fine with dudes who are into other dudes. I'm not fine with people who pretend they aren't or try to encourage women not to look like women. Women don't need another reason to feel bad about being women.

  • i think thats a case of modern accepted history not so much being factual because as the less ''recognized in schools'' historians show us its only in recent times that homosexuality has been regarded as going against societal norms

    • Exactly

  • I think sexuality was a fluid thing back then and now, not everybody was 100% straight or 100% gay. They probably were like 90% straight.

    • Exactly

  • I find it a little hypocritical since Saturnalia was a gay festival where men screwed each other and originated in Rome.

    • Totally!!!
