I think it depends on how it manifests. Like anything else there are good and bad qualities/quantities.

For example, if it's in the form of malignant narcissism, then that's bad.

Personally, I think the best way for it to manifest is as self-respect mainly, and kindness towards one's self.

Self love is supposed to be a goal regardless, not a reaction. If your main reason for self love is because you want to stick it to someone or something, it ironically becomes the exact opposite.

Of course you need to love yourself! Problems exist when you constantly seek approval from others rather than from it coming from yourself. If you love the way you are, look, present yourself, you dont need anyone else to reassure you. And if one loves thyself, others will too...

It can be but self love shouldn't be a reaction to something you should strive to love yourself no matter what. So I think loving yourself just because someone pissed you off is the wrong idea. But it definitely makes it a lot easier to deal with people and conflicts etc.
