Fairly recently, actually. My girlfriend and I have lived together for 12 years and have three children. We are not married but happened to meet right around Valentine's Day and - this was all just coincidence - move in together also around Valentine's Day. So we have treated the holiday as our sort of anniversary.

Consequently, each year, we take the children to Bumpa and Munga's - that is Grandma and Grandpa for the unitiated - and then take a long weekend, Friday through Monday - for just the two of us at either the Hotel Washington - we live in the DC area - or on the Chesapaeake. (This year it was the latter.)

We do a ton of stuff. However, there is - and definitely was this time - a lot of sex. This time we spent the better part of an afternoon and an evening just having sex. It - was - amazing!!!

Of course, nothing quite matches the first year we lived together - this before our first baby. We had a snowstorm and as anyone who knows the DC area, three flakes of snow and people are abandoning their cars on the highway.

To wit, we had a massive snowstorm and that kept us in all long weekend. Instinct kicked in, we stayed naked the whole time and basically spent a whole weekend having sex. Everywhere in the house, at any time of day, as soon as the mood hit. We were like animals - no joke.

We have never beaten that record - little people don't give you as much time. However, we are willing.

Yup, it is amazing. You realize that you not only need the animal physical release and just giving in to your most primal instincts, you also need that time to bond and feel connected. It starts really primitive and instinctive and feels so good and you end up feeling romance and total giving and total love. You just want and need that other person so much and suddenly the whole time your whole existence is about your physical needs and emotional connection and it is like the whole universe shrinks down to nothing but the two of you and nothing else matters. Totally agree with you. It is too rare and it is amazing when you get it.
