  Oh he knows because the dude is like his 3rd cousin. And the guy is 8years younger than me! Plus we’ve been close friends for like 3 years. Would meet up 2-3x a week for coffee or lunch. Then I changed my job and don’t see each other as often. But he asked me to lunch and we hang out those 5hours to catch up..   It's really hard to come up with a definitive answer, as I don't know how you said it, how he reacted, how well he knows you and subsequently how well he can determine how you meant that, and many other things. There definitely is a chance he may have interpreted that as a hint, but if you've been good friends for a while, there's a good chance he understand how you meant it and that it wasn't really an implication of anything between the two of you.
