What do you do if you have to work but your scared of Covid-19?

I’m extremely irritated at my employers. I work at a restaurant with 150 employees, most of whom got laid off due to Covid-19. My first reaction was fuck, I’m out of a job and I have bills to pay. But I qualified for unemployment and therefore it seemed like a better idea for me to just stay safe at home and pay my bills until the situation was over. But my employer called me and asked if I was okay with coming into work. I can’t say no because then I won’t qualify for unemployment since I HAVE to be available to work. So I said yes. And out of 150 employees who are out of work, I’m scheduled EVERY DAY. I’m scared. I don’t want to get the virus and I have to catch rides with my dad to work since I can’t drive. I might live through it but being around him all the time isn’t fair to him! My little sister lives with me and she has asthma. What I would prefer is to stay home but now I’m trapped in the cycle of working through his mess. Many people in my state is safe and collecting unemployment benefits while I no longer even qualify for unemployment due to the fact that I am now definitely not unemployed. Trust me, I don’t want to be bored in the house just like the rest of the world. I always loved work too- but not at the expense of me and my families safety! On top of that I have a toothache that feels sketchy because when I swallow my throat hurts. I keep getting headaches and coughing, fever one day and then fine the next, stuffy nose sometimes, trouble breathing- and I’m just scared that all these phantom symptoms are going to turn out to be the real thing. What do I do?

  • Follow the safety protocols. I know someone who got covid-19 with her boyfriend, and they quarantined in their room, disinfected everything they touched, and were able to heal without any of their roommates in the house getting sick either. As long as you're being careful, you can stop it from spreading to other people even if you get it. Just make sure you're showering as soon as you get home, not touching your face at all, keeping 6 feet from people, and disinfecting surfaces regularly.

  • I have to work in the pandemic. I have a lot of costumers so I try my better to keep distance, clean my hands after each costumer. Its frustrating but a girl has her bills to pay. I already had this feeling of thinking I'm infected, I got really scared. Sad that not everyone can be protected and stay safe quarantined! Be alright!!

  • I hear yea, its not fair to those who happen to work in “essential” fields to add insult to injury the idiots in congress decided to pile on an additional $600 a week for unemployment benefites, i dont know what you make but i would suggest you make far less than what they are giving away to people safely tucked inside their houses it’s absolute bullshit

  • Given the social distancing protocols, do not fret. You will no doubt be serving customers via take out or through drive up windows, at a distance.

    • And of course, wash up good before and after work and wash your hands during.

  • Protect yourself best you can or find a safer job

  • Go to work. Unemployment doesn't pay your full wages. I'm a grocery store employee, so I know the risks.. we just gotta do the best we can.

  • Relax and go into get tested.

  • I wouldn't go

  • Why is this in sexuality

    • You know, every time I make a very serious post on this website for SOME reason the topic automatically sets to “Sexuality”. In a way, I feel like The Man is trying to minimize the seriousness of my arguement😂

    • Lmao why do I feel like I've seen you do this before and I dont even know your user

  • First save your self so that you can live and do what you love to do.

  • Damn. Stay away from others during non work hours if you will keep working. Sorry.
