Should LGBTQI+ Sex Education be taught in High Schools for those that want it?

Should LGBTQI+ Sex Education be taught in High Schools for those that want it?
As a straight female, it never even occurred to me (privilege) that there were gay, lesbian+ students who may need or want to take a separate sex education class to deal with their own set of sex related issues and sexual health matters. I went to HS a million years ago, and there was a small group of out queer students, but this would never have even gotten anywhere if a student had requested it at my high school back then as the culture was much different back then. In this century however, do you think that this should be an option for students or this is something they would need to address off campus or on their own?
LGBTQI+ Students should have the option to take a separate Sex Ed course in high school
Vote A
LGBTQI+ Sex Ed should only be an option if the kids parents approve of them taking the class
Vote B
LGBTQI+ Sex Education should NOT be taught in high schools
Vote C
I don't disprove of LGBTQI+ but I don't think they need a specific separate sex ed class from everyone else, just regular sex ed

  • I voted D, but to be clear - this isn't because I think there's no additional information required, it's just not reasonable to say to a class of 13 year olds 'ok if you're gay, head over to the next room, and if you're bi try to run back and forth as quick as you can'. That said there's not that much that's super specific, just a few sex acts that the safe sex rules don't apply to if you're not into them. Straight kids need safe sex info about anal contact as well for instance.

  • Reason being they are teaching sex education in reference to reproduction explaining the mechanics of how the sexual organs work and how babies are made and all that right? I mean it's about the making of babies being the purpose not just having sex to have sex right? Really I'm guessing because the last grade I completed was 8th grade and barely went enough to graduate the 8th grade so I don't think I took sex education at school

  • I don’t really see what needs to be involved specifically for the LGBTI to feel more involved? Sex Ed isn’t how to have sex in its various forms, it’s a general knowledge about the human body, safe sex and reproduction - with a specific goal of how to prevent the latter. Preventing pregnancy and STI’s are the same regardless of sexual orientation

  • A separate class isn’t necessary but LGBTQ lessons should be included in the sex ed curriculum everyone learns. LGBTQ kids will the information they’ll apply to their sex lives and straight/cis kids will get accurate information about the queer community instead of relying on stereotypes or whatever they see online.

  • More, and better sex ed in high schools (and earlier) is always a good thing

  • They could just make it part of the sex ed course everyone else is taking. Ain't like it's going to hurt the straight kids.

  • Sex Ed, maybe. Perversions, no.

  • i do think it is reasonable to teach that there are people with alternative concepts of sexuality and unusual sexual preferences. but i don't think that can make up for more than 1-2 sittings of sex ed class.

  • Holy shit u been in class with dinosaurs then 🙉😮😱

    • No, dinosaurs roamed the earth 65 million years ago. I went to high school a million years ago, so I would have been going to class while trying to avoid being eaten by saber-toothed tigers and cave lions.

  • No. It's a SCHOOL, an institution of LEARNING. Learning involves reading, writing, mathematics, language, computer skills, literature, things useful for development of a person who has what it takes to survive the future work environment. LGB whatever is none of these things, benefits no child in the end, and is inappropriate for a school environment.

    • So what you're saying is there should be no sex education taught at all to anyone?

    • Yes, and the only really suitable teachers for that are called PARENTS; the only school, HOME.

  • Why did you not include an option for it should be integrated in sex-ed?

  • Sex education should be taught, sexual deviancy should NOT be taught.

    • Excellent. A penis being shoved up a butthole: sorry, that's not how nature or biology works. Kids don't need exposure to that sort of thing.

  • Yes it should be

  • Nope... not at all

  • I can't answer that. My "straight" sex ed class didn't work. Three girls were pregnant before graduating.

    • *Id say put them together

  • School system is already messed up enough. There is no need to mess it up further.

  • Yes it should be about sexual intercourse, sexual characters, sexual changes in body,

  • sex ed is about teaching you about body changes, and teaching about risks of sex. Pregnancy, STDs, etc.
I can not think of a single good reason why sex ed should change depending on sexual orientation.

This is how puberty changed you
this is what an orgasm is and why we have it
this is how you prevent sexual transmitted disease
this is how you keep clean
this is how a period works
    this is how pregnancy works.

dead simple. it isn't about sexuality, it's about biology.

  • I think both are important, there is a reason why people who don't take sex ed are more likely to get pregnant.

And hatred of groups comes from not understanding something, then not understanding turns to fear and fear leads to hatred.

So i think that both need to be talked about at schools maybe different lessons so one lesson that talks about the sexual part of relationships and the other teaching about what LGBTQ is

  • This is fucking nonsense
