I have always failed to understand why sex is place so high in a relation and why everything in life is depending on that intimate relation.

There are a number of issues that speak against being sexual and you can accomplish exactly the same with a partner without penetrative sex or any sex for that matter. You can cuddle, hold hands and have a number of activities that bond you just as well as being sexual.

Furthermore, a couple that builds their relation on everything else but sex has a much lower risk of cheating since the sexual part plays no role. Also, those couples can concentrate on the real important things in life and not just plain the trivial one.
