Would you change Age of Consent laws?

Personally, I would make the age of consent age 13 but I would require close in age exemptions of 4 years for anyone under 21, unless it went below age 13.

Therefore:

13 year olds could have sex with ages 13 to 17

14 year olds could have sex with ages 13 to 18

15 year olds could have sex with ages 13 to 19

16 year olds could have sex with ages 13 to 20

17 year olds could have sex with ages 13 to 21

18 year olds could have sex with ages 14 to 22

19 year olds could have sex with ages 15 to 23

20 year olds could have sex with ages 16 to 24

And 21 year olds could have sex with anyone older than them, but they couldnt have sex with anyone under age 17

  • It needs to be as simple as possible. When I was growing up people started fucking when they hit puberty. We didn’t really think about the laws until we were approaching 18. At that time there started to be a lot of media headlines about teen boys getting arrested for sleeping with their same or similar age teen girlfriends because her parents were nuts. That didn’t make sense… The sex was consensual, the ages were similar, many times they were in committed relationships, and the girl was never arrested for the same behavior. So it’s hard to take laws seriously that don’t follow common sense and aren’t justly applied equally across the population. Regardless of what the laws are teens are still going to have sex, so I guess the easiest thing to do is make the legal age around puberty. As a parent I probably wouldn’t want my kid dating an adult, but I think it’s better to handle that sort of behavior through proper parenting rather than government intervention. Once teens start to take risks and make their own decisions it doesn’t really matter what the laws say because they are going to do what they want behind your back if you don’t model appropriate behavior for them and instill principles through good parenting.

  • Hey! Great idea. Lets get The Government to precisely regulate sex.

I would keep or set it at 18. Just because our plumbing is ready, does not mean we will use responsibly. Fukking at 13 doesn't make you all "growed" up. It makes you an immature teen fukking.

  • I agree with your laws - I used to believe 20 year olds were adults but now that I'm in my 30s I view 23 - 24 year olds as little 14 year old children - they might have jobs and cars but there is something about them that seems child like

  • What would be the point of changing age of consent laws?

    • because each state is different. in delaware only, a 16 year old can have sex with anyone 16-29

    • thats just an example of one state

    • I’m a trial lawyer, I know that. But other than for uniformity, what’s the point?

  • No, 13 is way too young in my opinion

    • personally i would have put 13.5 meaning 180 days after turning 13. but i thought people would think thats weird so i just put 13...

  • Yeah… I’m just gonna go ahead and block you right now to save myself the hassle later on.

  • Nope

  • I feel 18 is perfect, 13 you're still too stupid to understand sex even. If this were a law changed like you say, there would be so many unwanted pregnancies.

  • Look up Romeo and Juliet laws, a lot of them cover that ground

    • yea the romeo and juliet law is 4 years

    • in my state, someone who's 25 years old can date a girl who's 16, otherwise 17 is legal, my last state is was only within 3 years apart, it definitely varies

  • The big problem here is that the age doesn't matter here, its knowing the implications of sex and understanding the aftereffects the act you're committing could result in. The age of the person you've having sex with at these ages is a way more minor issue.

  • No I wouldn't.

  • Um, just no. I would not do so because I really don't think someone as young as 13 is even physically ready to have sex.

  • Absolutely not! There are far too many things that a kid doesn’t know about to lower the ages of consent.

  • Whatever the " Age of consent " is, or might be, consent mutually shared is the decisive factor I feel.

  • I think i see where you are going with the idea. It would need to be more closely to the age of the younger people.

  • I would tend to agree even though girls mature faster than guys 13 is way too young 18 is the appropriate age of consent

    • With that being said teenagers within one to two years of one another shouldn't be liabled as sexual predators if sexual intercourse was consensual.

  • Do we even need it? People are gonna smash no matter what. The opposite of control is not chaos; more laws don't make fewer criminals

  • Only to make 17-18 the absolute age of consent. Some state’s still have bullshit laws for religion or parents selling their kids off to marriage.

  • Nope

  • We ought to make marital sex great again by having a law no sex until marriage.

    • Wow! You probably lose the next election... (oops... erection... LOL)

    • Ah, that's pretty clever. Election vs Erection for the America and Marital Sex swapping.

  • I would love to try out a 13 yr old if I had a Chance

  • 18 is the best age of consent.

  • The problem with making it "complicated" like that is not only enforcing it, but people aren't going to remember likely and aren't going to bother to look it up every time they want to have sex. Especially that young. So they could change them, but it would cause all kinds of confusion guaranteed. Make it the same and there's no confusion and easier to remember.

  • Just make it straight up 16 everywhere no one under 16 should even be an option.
