Because the religions that are today make this so intimate. So if you are an atheist you need to not obey any religios roul.
In the Roman Empire, befor emperor Constantin, nobady whas cristian or muslim, they whas making sex any time they want, whit who ever they want slaves, nobles, chids some times. The poor and ugly people make it whit animals., orgy, homosexual...
Sex in that time whas a pleasure, like a good food, if you have it you eat it. If you have woman around you you can have sex whit how many you want.
People whas killing a very long time a lot of people just from revange and inutility, as long that person is not irreplaceable (a good emperor, a buisnis man, a very powerful and famous gladiator) then you can kill it.
So people that don't belive in God need to stop coppy theyr traditions.
How is it a tradition to have morals and self-respect? If sex isn't intate them why are you wearing clothes even if they are not necessary?
It is necesary to wear clothes, i don't want the sun to burn me, i don't want all the insect to get on me, i don't want my feet to get in something dirty or to cut them on street, in winter is fucking cold and i can die, whit no clothes people will not live in Nord Europ, Nord America, Nord Asia. Clothes has existed before religion for protection, not for morality. Is not a tradition to have morals and self-respect, people are selfish from nature. People will akt in order to get something. You need to ask you're self what is morality first. Each person have theyr own morality but that doesn't meen evribody will like it. It whas moral for Hitler to kill jeus, olso legal in Germany, but not out side of Germany. How can you say what is moral and what is not? I'm a Ortodox Cristian and my morality is based on what i have been teach.
"When not necessary" = beach, in the summer, inside the house
It is certainly possible to have morals and personal constraints without a Higher Authority. It's just that there is no universality. Atheists or Agnostics can have Christian or other moral structure or be completely amoral (lacking in moral structure) and think anything that feels good is OK.

I think what you're picking up on is not that you are lacking an understanding or desire for intimate sex, but that you have no moral justification for saying that any kind of sexual activity is morally superior to any other.

There is no correlation, which is why you don't see it :) Interestingly enough, there are indeed people who view what you described as "just physical stuff", or just sex, and that the only true intimacy is mental or spiritual. Everybody has their viewpoint. :)

Hell im a Roman Catholic and i am fine with casual sex, one night stands, threesomes and many things. I also consider intimate acts as sexual emotional and passionate.
Cuz sond have odd views like of how if a guy wears pink or purple he is gay but maybe thess guys are just comfortable with it me I wouldn't where them cuz they aren't my favorite colors
A lot of religious people have the impression that people not of their faith are all godless savages with no morals. It's just closed mindedness.

A religion is all about convincing people off a certain thing in order to leech power, influence and money. If they can find a reason to convince you into giving them more, they will talk about it relentlessly.
Mostly because they are taught that they go hand in hand. This is definitely a learned behavior.

Average person can have Sex for several reasons rather than intimacy. Religions meant to control the act of sex. Imagine if we are living in the stone age where people can hump like animals. You naturally have your own selection criteria which is intimacy. Others they need a religion to control themselves. The idea of a sexually librated female scares the religious people
