Should prisoners with long sentences have procreation rights or should they be denied?

Think if you received a 30 year prison sentence. Should you, if a man be allowed to send sperm to your wife or girlfriend to impregnate her, if you want to procreate? Since they won't allow sex during visitation by allowing rooms for it, this seems like a good alternative. I think it is unjust to deny a person in prison procreation rights. I think in rare situations where the prisoner is sexually violent or committed acts against minors, either physically or sexually, then denying it is more justified.

If you are a woman, should your husband or boyfriend be allowed to send sperm to the prison for you to get an attempt to get pregnant on? It seems very just.

Please share your views on how you feel about the prison system denying people their procreation rights! I don't know of any American prison that allows this. If you do, please give me details!

  • Interesting idea. I never thought about this. But it is true that if someone is in jail throughout their most fertile years, or if they were given a life sentence, they could indeed loose their opportunity to have children. However, I can't imagine why someone WOULD want to have children with a prisoner. The person obviously won't be involved in the child's life while incarcerated and also has a known criminal history.

If someone does make this choice, it doesn't seem like a very complicated thing to hand off a small container of sperm at a visit. I don't see why there would need to be a whole legal issue about it. It seems like no one would even have to know about it.

    • Please vote, madam Flower7!

    • I can't vote because this issue has both good and bad points. I'm not sure whether I'm for or against it.

    • Okay. I should have given an undecided option. What are good things about prisoners procreating and what are bad things about prisoners procreating?

  • Shouldn't they be allowed to fuck their wife's once a week?

    • Yes but if in prison, they'd need visits.

    • Well ya but like they allow his wife to visit and them have sex..

    • They should but don't know of any prisons that allow it.

  • Well the purpose of a jail is to isolate you from normal society.
It's a punishment. Especially long sentences generally mean the convict committed some big crime. So they shouldn't be allowed.

    • But that's too excessive of a punishment. If he is imprisoned and his wife approves of his sperm, he should have a constitutional right to procreate. Some countries are recognizing the unfairness of this and enacting laws allowing procreation rights of prisoners, both male and female.

    • Well I guess it depends on the crime. What kind of a criminal they are. Even then, what they should incase the convict wishes to procreate is, have the man collect his sperm sample and artificially have it fertilised in his wife. That way they can procreate without having sex, seems fair enough.

    • Yes. What if convict is a woman? Or both are in prison? You can send them prison to prison. That's too tedious. That's how I was advocating for. Not to have sex during visitation hours. I think both male and female prisoners should have the right to procreate, unless he or she has a serious sexual nature charge, especially against minors.

  • Ever heard of a Conjugal visit?

    • Wow. So prisoners can get sex weekly from their man or woman? Would you rather never get sex again or have sex weekly as a prisoner with your wife?

Only 6 states allow conjugal visits: California, Connecticut, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, Washington. California is only one that allows homosexual sex.

    • Federal prisoners are not allowed conjugal visits and only 6 state prisons allow it once per month from 1 hour to up to 3 days.
