  • I see it like this -

To be liked could mean you are a very nice person.
Or that you tend to compromise, and are a bit of a social chameleon who adapts so much to others around them, that they seem not to have a very distinct personality. They are good at compromise, but sometimes one wonders what they are not saying, what they are holding back.
Or it could mean that not everyone likes you, but those who do share specific ideologies, or preferences in common. It is a match, but it is based considerably on also who they are, not just you.

However, respect probably has a few more universal traits - these people are often honourable, what they say is consistent with what they do (they are of their word), they appear not to lie, cheat, or steal, they can be counted on as reliable and responsible, not shrugging off duty or accountability. They are neither a sycophant, nor always agreeable, politely and reasonably disagreeing when they think differently than another. I guess I could make a fairly long list here, so I'll stop with those.

  • Very good question. I'd like equal amounts of both, please

  • They go hand in hand I can't respect people I don't like.

  • I'd rather be respected for my views. However that would create both agreement and disagreement.

  • Respected easily. If you're respected, you're going to be liked.

But if you're liked, it doesn't mean you will be respected. You can be incompetent and still have a good personality and be liked, but not as respected as someone who is more competitent.

  • I choose being liked. Because it seems like respect would follow that. People tend to respect someone that they like, and be disrespectful toward those they don't like or that they look down on.

  • Liked. People respect those they like, but not always the other way around.

  • I've had both before and I can definitely say, respected is better. Because if someone likes you but doesn't respect you, you become his inferior his plaything he will feel like he holds a power over you.
But when you earn and maintain the respect of someone even he hates your guts he'll always think twice before doing anything to harm you.

  • To be respected is to be taken seriously. To be liked, one does not necessarily have a strong voice.

  • Respected

    • Sexuality topic? Clearly GaG doesn’t respect you yet ;)

    • AI is unpredictable. People are smarter. 😎

  • Respect is worth more in the time it takes to gain and wHt it can do for you, being liked is often just a minor gain that comes along with it

  • Respected

  • They don't have to like me but they have to respect me

  • Liked since most people also respect people they like.

  • I would rather be liked because, to me, you can't truly like someone if you don't respect them.

  • Definitely respected

  • Liked is good

  • I'd rather be respected.
