Are homosexuals considered virgins?

My understanding is that the definition of a virgin is someone who has never had sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex. Someone looses his virginity by putting his penis inside a woman's vagina (or looses her virginity when he goes inside of her).

For someone who has always been gay or lesbian, this has never happened. So are they still considered to be virgins?

  • Virginity can describe many things. Virgin forest, virgin olive oil, etc. Humans are virgins generally around sex, though people will say you're a ____ virgin to describe other things it's your first time on. But when talking about people, unless specified, it's about sex.

For heterosexuals, unless otherwise specified, virginity refers to penis-in-vagina penetration. You could also talk about 'oral virginity' or 'anal virginity' and they are about as relevant, but if someone doesn't say which, it's understood they mean penis-in-vagina virginity.

Non heterosexuals, its various degrees of more confusing. For gay men it probably refers to anal sex, but if you've only been a top or a bottom, are you a virgin? If you've done neither you are, both you're not, but i'm not sure if it's understood otherwise.

For lesbians … uh … yeah.

  • It depends on the definition you are using. The old Oxford dictionary definition used to be. "Never having peen penetrated by the male penis." So by that definition I am a Virginia.
Most modern day definitions are closer to. "Never having had sexual intercourse with another person."

  • Well your definition is wrong. The definition for the word virgin in the dictionary is "a person who has never had sexual intercourse". Just because you like your definition better doesn't mean it's right.

    • A penis in an anus, mouth, or hand, or a hand/tongue inside a vagina is not sexual intercourse. It is a form of sexual activity, but not properly speaking intercourse. It's often called "outercourse."

    • I knew I should have included the definition of sexual intercourse too. "Sexual contact between two individuals involving penetration" that's the definition. Anal is penetration so gay guys can have sexual intercourse. A lesbian sticking a dildo in another lesbian? That's also sexual intercourse because it includes penetration.

  • This is a bad definition of virginity. I think a better definition would be any sexual activity between you and someone else.

    • I prefer my definition because according to that definition, I can still classify myself as a virgin. I've had a few girlfriends in the past and we have fooled around but never did the real thing. According to your definition I'm not a virgin anymore.

    • Well I think if what you did could lead to getting an STD (assuming no protection was used); I think those activities should be good enough to take your virginity. Oral and anal sex both have the same likelihood of transmitting an STD as vaginal sex.

  • If a woman only does anal I'd still class her as a virgin so surely the same applies to gay men

  • " with a member of the opposite sex" is not how I see it. I see it as PIV or PIA, so a gay man practicing anal intercourse is not a virgin. But what about Lesbians who have never had either? I think they remain virgins dildos or not.

  • I don't believe the definition states that sex has to be with the opposite sex. Regardless, that's a great way to think. It's a good question.

  • Uh if you've received a person's body inside your body or vice versa, in a sexual manner, other than kissing, you ain't a virgin. Pretty simple.

  • Your definition is not true

  • Only if they haven't had sex against their sexual preferences.

  • anything involving the genitalia would be considered sex. virginity is having sex.
