porn stars are not executing sexual intercourse for their own enjoyment, which is what we do at home, but for everyone to watch and enjoy. Like all actors they are selling an illusion, in this case an illusion, a fantasy of lust.

Porn performers have sex at unconvenient locations (like a hard kitchen table or a rock outdoors), unconvenient temperatures (a hot studio, a chilly place outdoors), unconvenient positions (grossly spread legs, so the camera can properly film a well-lit penetration while showing the bouncing breasts of the woman, delivering esthetic movements at the same time) while being stared at by the staff (ok, maybe this is not such a big deal for someone deciding to have sex in front of an audience) and receiving commands from the director ("Longer thrusts, boy, we want to see your penis slidin' in! Spread your legs wider, girl, show it all to us! Orgasm in 30 seconds!") Finally they have to get their male partner off or at least sufficiently aroused so he can finish off himself so a cumshot can be filmed. That cumshot needs to be on time, so the performers either have to make sure the male performer does not get too aroused or parts of the scene might have to be repeated, e. g. if the ejaculation was not filmed by accident or there is not enough footage of foreplay and intercourse.

One also has to take into account the inherent intimacy of being totally naked and executing intercourse with a scene partner who might be a complete stranger or someone they would not be intimate with in their private life.

That might even be particularly unpleasant for the woman. They might need lubrication due to lack of arousal and might be treated with an erect penis they find to be unconveniently large. They will be ejaculated at or have to practice fellatio until orgasm and getting semen squirted into their face.

Does that sound like fun? Probably not more fun than than any other movie actor, to say the least.

Some porn stars have explicitly admitted not to enjoy their job, like Samantha Strong, Raven or Savannah, to give some known examples.

Some were a bit more moderate. To quote former porn performer Tracey Adams, when asked about her motivation on doing porn movies, she answered:

"The money. A girl who says anything else is lying. All the other things that go along with being a porn performer are incidental. Sure, you get to have sex with great looking guys who are very adept at getting a woman off, but the bottom line is the money. For me porn was just another physical thing I did. [...] In this business, you're forced to be intimate with people who you might not be intimate with in your private life. As a result, you make compromises with yourself."

And that probably is the bottom line: it is a kind of physical labor. Her statement also points out that she was intimate with partners she would not have been intimate with in her private life. Ironically, she met Amber Lynn, her partner with whom she lived for some years while doing porn.

There's no universal experience.

There are porn girls who LOVE their job, and who have made more than enough money that they could buy a nice house outright and still have plenty of money left over, but they stay in it because they enjoy the work and the lifestyle, and they don't let the downsides bother them. These girls often have real careers in porn, and will do lots of things to make extra money on the side (fan meetups at conventions, radio interviews, TV commercials, merch, etc.) and they may even do cameos in Hollywood movies.

There are also porn girls who don't mind doing porn, but they're really just there because the money is far better than they'd make doing retail or office admin work. If they could get an office job that paid them porn wages, many would probably be gone, but since they can't, they're happy to do porn instead. Some of this group are just lazy, and porn is a low-effort way to make a lot of money and live a high lifestyle, but they don't put a lot of extra effort into their careers. Within this group is also a subset of porn girls most likely to be exploited by a few bad people in porn, or by "boyfriends" who essentially pimp them out - they're women who just don't take charge of their lives or careers, OR who are unwilling to give up the money for a "normal" job at a normal salary (addicted to a high lifestyle), OR girls who are hooked on drugs and need constant drug money. Most of your reports of "porn industry exploitation" will come out of that subset.

And there are a few porn girls who are desperate for money - maybe to help their families, but often to escape a bad situation of their own, or just because they were stupid with money - and they're just in porn long enough to make the money they need and they're gone. These girls may hate porn, but are literally in it for a specific monetary goal and once that goal is achieved, they're gone. There are probably 50 such girls a year, who do 3-5 scenes and are never heard from again, because they got the money they needed and moved on.

Relatively few porn girls are legitimately stuck in porn - because they are under contract, because they owe money they couldn't pay any other way or because they have no other place to go (maybe they can't go back to their families, etc.) - the vast majority could walk away at any time. They don't either because they like the job or because they like the money and don't want to live a "normal" life and have a "normal" job with normal pay. When you can buy a fancy car and live in a fancy apartment in the city, eat out at nice restaurants whenever you want, buy whatever clothes you want, and take travel vacations several times a year, etc., many find it hard to give up that lifestyle.

Porn actresses, strippers, prostitues - I have known many, on here and irl. Some love it, while others can’t wait to make enough to pay for school or whatever and quit. And I have known a few who have gone into free porn because they enjoy the attention. No way to put them all in one category.

Depends on the girl and the kind of porn they make, i know the girls that cam or tend to self record typically enjoy or at least don't mind it. Sure its to make money, but a lot of them are quite sexual and enjoy it as a form of self expression to.

The ones working in the professional industry on the other hand? Those will be the ones that hate it, its not real sex, they have little to no say over the scene and typically are not treated all that well.

I will add an exception to the cam side of things, you also have the girls who are doing it either by force or out of pure need. Those won't enjoy it, and would be extremely obvious. They tend to be on those sites you get popups from where they are just sitting in a room looking bored rather than having a good time with the audience being happy.

A lot of those girls eventually quit the industry, so I assume there's probably a sense of novelty that wears off eventually. The ones who stick around must really enjoy it though. From their perspective, the money is definitely good, casting agents on my side of entertainment will generally respect their clients wishes (so I would assume that they do on the adult entertainment side), and I would think the men are basically attractive. Their personal reputation takes a hit, but I gotta think that there is a tipping point where you break passed the point of being seen as a slut because you went ahead and shamelessly videotaped your activities.

I don't know I think some love it and others are probably doing it just as a job.

Altho once you get into the industry I'm not sure if you can ever get a normal job after that. So even if you want to quit I think you pretty much have no choice but to stick with it.
