  • No, it is not true. Rather it is that they have different sex drives rooted in evolution.

The human male's prehistoric ancestors were looking to have sex with as many females as possible. This being the way to spread their sperm and perpetuate their DNA. Thus overall the species. It's how man has lasted for several hundred thousand years.

Consequently, men are more easily aroused visually. They instinctively seek out sex based on physical attractiveness - this in evolutionary terms suggesting the capacity of the female to become pregnant and bear and nurture offspring.

Females, by contrast, could normally only bear one child at a time. Moreover, once the child was born the female was vulnerable. She had to spend all her energy nurturing the child and feeding it.

Thus, the female was instinctively seeking a male with healthy sperm who could bear healthy offspring and who would then find food for mom and baby and ward off rival males and predators. Thus, in general, context is what drives the female sex drive.

The exception being penis size. That being an indicator of the health of the male and the quality of the sperm. Even here, though, it is contextual. Penis size does not matter for sexual gratification, but is instinctively suggestive of the male's health.

Interesting aside, the Kinsey Institute conducted an experiment where they showed a random sample of women photos of nude men, some with erections and others not. The women were asked which men were more attractive.

It was not even a close call. The men with erections won by a wide margin. The women were having an instinctive reaction based on the context. Albeit in this case the context was straightforward.

In a similar example, Kinsey again, women were shown photos of shirtless men. Some just posing sometimes in "suggestive" positions, others holding a baby or hugging a woman or other such "romantic" poses. The women were asked which were the most attractive men.

Same contextual result. The men holding the babies or hugging a woman won by a wide margin. The women were again having an instinctive reaction based on context.

Again, context is what tends - for evolutionary reasons - to move the female sex drive. Suffice to say, that making it somewhat more episodic for women than men, but not necessarily suggesting a higher sex drive for males.

Thus, depending on the man, he may get more easily aroused but if he has a low sex drive he may not pursue it. A female may get aroused less frequently - depending on the context - but depending on the woman if she gets aroused she may more aggressively seek out sex.

Long answer to short question. It is not that men have a higher sex drive, but rather that they are more generally easily aroused. Women need the proper context, but given that context, are as easily aroused.

  • The answer is not quite as simple and straightforward as it would seem.

You have to start by understanding a major difference between men and women: women generally don't want casual sex (they want sex within a relationship) and are much less interested in multiple partners - their biological imperative is to find the best mate to have children with and stick with him. Men, having a biological imperative to "spread their seed", are much more likely to be interested in casual sex and having many sex partners - not being in a relationship does not reduce men's desire for sex. Comparing two single people, it would often appear that men have a higher sex drive.

But if you compare a man and a woman IN a relationship, things can change. For many women, being in a relationship "unleashes" her sexual desires - she feels safe and secure and is able to let her sex drive run free with her man - and it may well be the woman who has the higher sex drive.

I'm not sure how you could make a reasonable comparison given these facts. I suggest that men probably still have a higher sex drive when you consider that a lot of men are single for a significant portion of their life, but it's still hard to make a comparison.

  • Yes, and I learned this in my studies too 😂 Taking Relationship Psychology taught me for example that since males have more testosterone in their system, gays are more likely to be promiscuous and be infected with HIV/AIDS which is not to insult them, but if you think about it, it makes sense because the more people you sleep with, the more opportunities you’re giving yourself to be infected with HIV and develop AIDS.

  • I think it depends on the individual. I've always had a fairly high sex drive, even moreso than the guys I've been with.
And with age, my sex drive has increased! However, research has also shown that a woman's sex drive can increase as she gets older if that tells you anything.

  • Not always.

  • To answer this, I need to give some background information.

Sex drive, in both women and men, is linked to testosterone levels. Now, of course, men generally have higher plasma concentrations of testosterone. However, in women, a little testosterone goes a long way.

Average (total) testosterone levels in adult males and females are as follows:

    Female: ~ 15 - 95 ng/dL

    Male: ~ 200 to 1000 ng/dL

If we just considered the numbers, we would assume that men always have a higher sex drive. Yet, some women are nymphos, whereas some guys can't achieve an erection.

Some women have higher sex drives than both men and other women, depending on how you define “higher”.

  • I think generally, yes, but it more so depends on the individual person.

  • I said no because a lot of women have higher sex drives than men.

  • That is changing with anti-male societal norms, anti-masculine schooling, drugs, chemicals, and of course feminism.

    Much higher in 2020
    Much higher in 2020
  • Literally just depends on the person, for example, my libido is waay higher than my girlfriend's, and higher than any guys I've spoke to on the matter.

  • I definitely agree with this 🤭

  • In 1989, my girlfriend said to me "You want it too much."
    That was the last straw.
She was dumped because that was the only thing we had left between us frankly.
(And I've seen her now and am VERY glad I dumped her. *whew*)

So, to answer your question: Yes.
At least when we are young.

  • Yes duh? Where have u been? — did ya skip fucking sex Ed class

  • Generally speaking yes but it isn't as stark a contrast as people think it is. There are plenty of women who have higher drives than their male partners. n

  • Without going into depths: it's men.

  • It really depends on the person.
We all have our own levels of arousal and desire!

  • Probably. I overheard my fiance saying to an ex friend that he plays hard to get with me in order to make me want it more. But it doesn't always work. Haha

When he says no, fsr he is playing hard to get, trying to get me to beg because he thinks it's "cute" but when I say no, I mean it. So I guess you can say my drive is lower.

  • I think that's generally true but obviously there are exceptions with both genders

  • I have been in such study and it shows that men in percentage general are more likely have higher sex drive than females percentage. For example every 73 guys of 100 has high sex drive while women 38 of 100 can have high sex drive and so on. I don't remember what was the percentage in the study i took part in and it was few years ago. There is women/girls who has a very high sex drive but in general males have high sex drive more than women does for further time also.

  • Overall I'd say yes but it's definitely not always true

  • Most women I've been with have had a higher sex drive than mine, but I guess mine is lower than your average dick pic sending fuckboy. Even though I am a "fuckboy" apparently...

  • there about the same. girls can typically just control it better.

  • It is true that the average guy has a higher sex drive than the average girl. It's certainly not true that all guys are high, or that all girls are low, or that some girls aren't higher than 90% of guys, or that the guy is always the high drive one in the relationship.

  • Guys are usually lowkey horny all the time. Girls get super horny too, but usually not all the time. Of course there are exceptions.
