As a Massage Therapist for almost 30 years, I would use the therapist who best meets my needs for that particular massage, whether that would be muscle pain from over-exertion, general relaxation, erotic relaxation, hot stones, etc.

Historically, I've had one male and three female "regular" therapists, which is very consistent with the sex ratio in the profession: about 24/76%. The male was one of my teachers and the most knowledgable, in my opinion, about massage modalities that can actually fix achy muscular conditions, of which I have several. The three females were most skilled in Swedish relaxation; "tool-assisted" techniques such as hot stone, muscle scraping, bamboo, etc; and erotic massage, respectively.

I noticed that many have said they prefer females because they are more "soft" or "gentle". Might I take the liberty of suggesting the terms "smoother" or "more fluid" in delivering their massages as being a bit more accurate?

A therapist can give a massage that is very "gentle", but it can still be very "choppy" as opposed to "smooth". One can also give a very forceful, deep tissue massage yet do it extremely smoothly. In fact, most DT that I do IS smooth because I am continually feeling for certain changes in the tissue, and I can't feel that if I'm wiggling all around. Overall for relaxing massages of ANY pressure, I prefer females because most of them massage more smoothly and provide a more fluid experience than most males. On a final, personal note, one of my instructors was a tiny wisp of a lady, possibly 92 pounds, soaking wet! Her extensive knowledge of leverage and anatomy allowed her to put incredible amounts of pressure onto a client when needed. It was amazing! Yet, she could still pull off lymphatic work which, at times, requires about 3 grams of pressure- the weight of a dime- for extended periods of time.

I would say male because I think he wouldn't do small talk like women do and I'm the worst at small talk, I'm completely unable to do it.
I first I thought maybe women cause having a guy touch me would make me uncomfortable but then i thought of my doctor who's a guy and there's no difference than with a female doctor since they're professional so

I would prefer a female masseuse over male, coz i want to be relaxed during that time.. and its more about relaxing ur body and not being tensed or worried about anything.. I think woman tend to be more safer and gentle

I love feeling a woman massage me because women have softer skin. Receiving a body-to-body massage is wonderful with a girl just because female skin is soooo soft. I’ve had one massage from a guy. And that was after an injury. Every massage after that has been by females. I remember one from overseas that had some really strong hands... literally had me on the table drooling but she knew what she was doing. She warned me before hand and I accepted the challenge. Walked out of there like a new born baby calf, wobbling and holding onto the wall for balance. Made sure I saw her once a month.

It doesn't matter to me as long as they know what they're doing. I rarely get massages, only when on vacation and my wife and I go to a spa. I've had male and female masseuses in the past, and their gender didn't make a lick of difference in the experience.

I'd prefer a woman. If I'm getting a massage I want to relax and I'd be too nervous to be undressed around a man to relax. Even if I'm not even attracted to him. With another woman I'll feel much more comfortable.
