In the most broad sense, the word "slut" refers to a sexually promiscuous woman. However, in our current generation, considering that it is more acceptable for women to explore their sexuality compared to the old days (as it should be), the meaning of "slut" is likely to vary and be heavily debated upon. However, I define as "slut" as a person, mainly a woman, that is not only sexually promiscuous, but is careless, reckless, and harmful in her sexual actions. The "slut" has no self-respect for herself, often having sex with multiple men without protection, constantly getting STDs and unwanted pregnancies. Such behavior can put other people in danger if they have sex with her. The slut also is more prone to taking advantage of men for sex and leading them on rather than entering honest relationships with them.
When she does enter an honest relationship however, she constantly cheats with multiple men and is, in general, unreliable. Anyone that marries her would be unwise. A slut isn't really defined by how she dresses, but wearing revealing clothes is often common for a slut because she exposes herself in a sexual way. However, a "slut" can wear even the most conservative clothes if she wants to and still be a slut. When women get called "sluts" just for simply enjoying sex, having certain preferences, and having experience with just more than just a small amount of men, I don't think it's a fair label because sometimes you have put yourself out there to discover what's best for you before you get married and have fun while you're young. Just don't be reckless and inconsiderate about it.
Slut isn't a dictionary word with a proper definition (like, say, 'whore.') It's a social construct.
It's always used in a derogatory way, to insult. Similar to the 'n' word. The person themselves can use it, which minimizes and diffuses its power, but no other person should call someone else this, as a way to demoralize them.
I would say that by your two choices, almost every girl would choose the former, not the latter. But then this doesn't exactly explain some wanting to be called that during sex. So it's a bit more complicated than it first presents.
I tried to be open/expansive since the usage varies. When my wife uses the term 'sluts', for example, she means: "Southern Ladies Up To Something."

In my opinion I don't think you can limit the word "slut" only to womens , mens also deserve that title. Also in my opinion if a girl gets kidnapped and left in a prostitute business without her acceptance.. she constantly gets hurt and people call her slut without knowing her story..
Also if a guy is left by a girl who spread lies about him and said that he is not capable of caring her , then everyone makes jokes about him without knowing the whole story..
To sum up I think that before telling a person slut , you should know the whole story cause this is a pretty big word..

I never knew what it actually meant because I was called that during my teen years and early 20s, never understood it because I never had a boyfriend, never went out on dates, still a virgin, never done anything sexual or kissed anyone. I was being called a slut because guys were staring and trying to talk to me because of my breasts being huge. I ignored the guys because I knew why they wanted to talk to me and I always hated the attention I even went to men's shirt big and tall section just so I can hide them. But I was still getting called a slut.

Slut is a word that in my opinion has no value. I’ve been called a slut back before I had even had my first kiss. I was called a slut for losing my virginity to my boyfriend at that time. I’ve been called a slut for saying no to a guy who wanted sex. I’ve been called a slut for dressing a certain way. I’ve been called a slut by random men driving down the street who catcalled me. The word slug gets thrown around so widely, and frequently and often times its usage is just inaccurate. Anyone can be called a slut.

In my culture you're deemed as a slut if you sleep with someone who isn't your husband/wife.
But in the west I suppose a slut would be someone who has a high body count.
