Does your social class affect your ideas about sexual morality and fidelity?

Superb Opinion

  • Sociologists have said that wealthier people, esp. wealthier women are generally more sexually experimental, have far more partners than less wealthy. There seemed to be little difference among men. Wealthy women were found to have 2 different types of men that they are attached to. They are more likely to want guys"from the wrong side of the tracks" as lovers and conservative guys for husband's/father's. Less wealthy women had similar preferences for "nice guys" ( stable, steady income) for both lovers and mates. If was thought that was due to the greater stigma of "loose women's among less wealthy societies.

    • Wow! That makes a lot of sense. Makes me shiver lol

  • Of course it does.
Men who make more money favor monogamy and have less children, whereas men of lower socioeconomic status are more promiscuous and produce more children.

Men of lower socioeconomic status naturally have to resort to promiscuous behavior, because they lack the resources to ensure survival off the offspring.
Having more children raises their reproductive odds.

    • You don’t think it’s the opposite?

    • No? It would make no reproductive sense for rich men to be promiscuous.

    • Interesting

Most Helpful Girls

  • Well, it makes sense to me from what I have noticed, that the middle class are the most prudish sexually while the upper and lower classes seem to be the ones that are less concerned about what the prudish term as sexually moral.

You have certainly given us a great question to ponder Ms Gwen... thank you! :)

    • Welcome 😊

  • No, my views and class are completely unrelated in most regards.

    • Cool

  • Interesting question. Overall, I am not sure that social class does affect that. I think it is more a matter of personal values and maybe upbringing, rather than social class.

    • Hmm. Good point.

  • Nope.

  • I think the higher in class the go the more judgment that gets cast on people. I'd say that there is more a focus on the term classy, ladylike or gentleman

    • Interesting. Do you think that’s true in private as well?

    • Maybe not so much in private but someone could be carrying a form of entitlement that could carry into the bedroom per say, where he or she has an expectation 🤔

  • no and thats because i know that all the stereotypes surrounding the subject are utter rubbish

    • Awesome 😊 Rubbish lol

  • can you ask this question in a dumber way, I don't know what you mean

    • Are rich people more likely to hook up or cheat?

    • cheat, rich people have money so unless they are looking for real love and only want one woman, they probably gonna cheat but who knows 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • Hmm. Good point 😊.

  • Beats me.

  • not at all

  • No. Anyone, no matter the amount of money, race, religion or political view, has the ability to disappoint us.

    • Totally true

  • Yes, I suspect it does. But that, to me, seems to stem from the fact that social classes often have slightly different morals on a wide variety of issues

    • True

    • However, what one social class holds as ethically and morally true does not necessitate to that same class will hold it with any of the same vigor in a different era

    • Totally true

  • Yes, it affects my ideas because society frowns upon fidelity being immoral.

  • Yes. Good observation. Also a component to the judgement of taste in the Bourdieu sense.

    • Thank you 😊

    • Ok. So after rethinking this a little, the reason why social class conditions us to have a certain tolerance or inclination towards a standard of sexual morality and fidelity is based on the fact that people who are educated and have a higher income, probably afford divorce more than lower middle class and working class people. That being said, I'd add that the upper middle class has the affinity and predisposition of being less loyal because of cultural capital, or one could argue at least. The lower midel class and working class have a more time consuming job, which also sets up a higher tolerance for infidelity. Furthermore, you could argue that the lower classes of society have a tendency of not being as strict about monogamy, at least in the western world. It's also worth mentioning that all this is obviously culturally situated.

    • Fascinating. Thank you 😊.

  • I have no idea.

  • I am single boy with no social affection unless it's social media 😂. By now I am 50% sure to never be in politics. Social class I really think it's bullshit even if I am in middle class and understand my friends with high living standards.
