Do you think modern society is overly sexualised?

I think modern society is overly sexualized and we see sex everywhere it's kinda overwhelming.

I think that a lot of the details of sex life should be left to the private sphere or to the educational sphere.

But from fashion and beauty industry (abnormally enhanced butts and breasts and lips etc) to entertainment industry (song lyrics, easy access to porn, sexualisation of women in movies etc) I feel like sex occupies a big part of the public sphere.

Superb Opinion

  • I do, yes.
But I also believe in a free society, and often with that comes some very negative aspects. That's what happens when people are not controlled, and left to their own devices.
This is also a case of capitalism. Sex sells.
I think nothing between consenting adults should be illegal behind closed doors.
I am in favour of schools providing sex ed.
What really bothers me about it, in general, is how not evolved many people seem to be. I don't think there's anything wrong with sex, per se, and we are living in a generally very liberated, free choice type of time, and that's good. But unfortunately there are still so many people who take it too far, and eventually need to engage in extremist activity to be satisfied. And that's just a real shame. The pattern is so clear, yet so many run head first into it, and then they're stuck, addicted, anxious, controlled by their desires that now cannot be met.
And the other worry is that people are becoming less and less tolerant of one another (in many senses, not just sex.) There's less commitment, fewer marriages, fewer children that are planned, and the social fabric of society has become very selfish, essentially. Sex dolls are just around the corner; it's probably only a matter of cost now that is preventing them from being in every tenth house or something. And once that happens, will it quell peoples' desires? I doubt it. It'll just push them farther away from actual human companionship, which is what would truly benefit many. Anything else is just a cold imitation.

  • Yes. Unfortunately we live in a hypersexual society where people will expect you to do things (even if you don't want to or view sex that way). I don't know if wearing certain clothing and looking a certain way would be also put in here or not. But we even sexualize food or objects/items that seem harmless (the last one can be applied to only certain people of course). But yeah, we can sexualize anything and everything. That's just how it is. As long as the stuff is legal I don't have a problem with it. I only have a problem with people who try to get someone to do something sexual that they don't feel comfortable doing or don't want to do.

  • Absolutely.

Though I think it is important to understand the definition of sexualisation. Skin exposure per se isn't sexualisation. A sauna for example isn't a sexualised place despite people being nude there (usually). A conservative area can be just as sexualising by forcing women to cover themselves almost completely because of associating them with a form of original sin. Which means the women per se are sexualised and thus have to cover up.

On the other hand in most western nations the opposite extreme happened. Many women just presenting themselves as completely sexual beings with nothing else to offer other than their body. Which is the same as in very conservative areas. The difference is that one is exposeing that sexualisation while the other demands it to be hidden. Both are unhealthy relationships to our inherent sexuality that is part of our being.

There is also a long list of what created the increase in sexualisation in western nation, but the most common is wealth and decadence. This is a common theme throughout history. From babylon to the ancient greeks, japanese, romans, etc. Whenever they reached peak decadence, sexualisation was at a peak as well. Also same-sex love became normalised as well. The moment we have a major recession (soon), things will go back and normalise. Essentially the pendulum will swing more conservative after we have pushed it too far into progressiveness.

  • when it comes to things like this its easy to imagine this is the age of depravity but only because history teaches on the good... thing is now im older i know for a fact today is no different to yesterday and when you look deeper the same could be said of evry generation going back to the beginning of time from 1920s flapper girls to roman orgies to druid ritual

  • YES!!!

  • I don't think it is in general a bad thing, and it is rather narrow-minded of anyone to think so. Sex is a very natural, and healthy thing.

I am not judging you here, but what benefit is there to get from an undersexualized society, such societies have historically lead to suppression of sexual expression, and if the liberal revolution has taught us anything, it is that people want to express their sexual side without judgement, and that they will fight to achieve that right if they have to.

  • Yes this is where my conservative past kicks in. I think some things are best kept to yourself.

If something happens between me and my partner it stays with us forever.

Nowadays if you sleep with a girl they all see a descriptive image of your dick and how you have sex.

    It’s all porn and media

  • Yeah!

  • I always get uncomfortable hearing people talk about sex face to face. I mean why not let me watch you have sex if you actually have to tell me about it?

    • loool

  • it's not a big deal, by the way beautiful girl in your pic :)

    • thank u

  • It's the same as it always been just now there is technology to know it.

  • It is overlysexualized but I like it like that especially in art (as an artist myself) be it comic books, movies, games, etc.

  • Yes, it takes away from the actual activity in my opinion.

  • Yeah it is.

  • you should see the animal kingdom it's even worse

    • Perhaps but i don't think animals should br used as a reference for human moral compass Especially considering the fact that they have incest, rape, zoopholia etc

    • I guess but there are spectrum's in both, some mate for life others fertilise and leave. I just feel humans have always been this way I mean was it the Greeks that had temples that women would have sex with people for like worship , blessing type stuff.
