Dropping the pill for an IUD?

So, my gynaecologist recently recommended I consider dropping the pill for an IUD now that I'm almost 15. He said something more long-term and reliable like a copper IUD would be best for me.

My mom has had one for years now and she is happy with it.

I know it's way more practical and everything but I think I really got used to taking the pill every morning since I was 10 (for my period/acne at the time). Am I stupid to think I'm gonna miss that at some point? Any other girls who dropped the pill for an IUD? How was it?

  • I had a couple bad experiences with IUDs.

The first one was put in badly and caused me some pain and had to be removed and replaced. After that I didn't feel it.

Then I was with a guy that didn't know I had one and said he could fell something hard rubbing the top of his dick when we were having sex... it was my IUD... I had it taken out because he didn't like the feeling (it wasn't all the time, just once and a while)... after it was out he never felt it anything in there again (thank god).

  • I dropped the pill for the IUD and have absolutely no regrets. There’s nothing to remember to take everyday and it stays in for up to 7 years.

It will be uncomfortable for a couple months but it’s completely worth it. I wouldn’t, however recommend the copper one. I’ve heard that one makes your period heavier and is generally more painful. I went with the Mirena and I love it!

But you do you and whatever is most comfortable. Good luck!

    • Thank you so much. My gynaecologist also talked about the hormonal one that eases our periods. It's the same my mother has.

    • I haven’t had a period in over a year now since I got my IUD. It’s magical!

  • You might do better in that there are no hormonal problems. Plus its better than trying to remember everyday. Yes you might miss taking them but it is a rule in medicine that if it is better for the patient for compliance to offer something more convenient.

  • Sounds like a good idea to me. If you miss the behavioral aspect of talking the pill in the morning replace it with some other behavior that you enjoy or is healthy for you

  • you can't just try it?

    • Yes. The thing is, I probably won't go back to the pill because of all the advantages. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.

    • well that would depend if you fuck with the vibes of that shit, if you dont then you'll probably go back to the pills 🤷🏽‍♂️

  • tried it, it wasn't for me. can't really explain why

  • Which ever you choose is okay. A girl I know was sexually active. She was also having problems with periods.

Her doctor put her on the pill to help regulate her. But I busted out laughing when she told her doctor more or less yelled at her to make sure she still used a condom to keep from getting STDs. The doctor even told her to make the guy put a condom on when she just gave him oral sex.

    • I already had my IUD inserted 2 weeks ago. Thank you for sharing.

  • Are you sexually active anyway?

Why are you on it at all

  • If you are not sexually active , continue taking pills as you are used to them and they worked very well in your body

  • It might hurt if you perform certain exercises but I'm not totally sure.

  • But if you start to use pill in this age not good for you because when you get more mature cause big health issue for you.

    • What are you talking about? I've already been taking the pill since I was 10.

    • Not good for you, why you using pills, if you don't have unprotected sex?

    • Didn't you read what I wrote? I started taking it as a treatment for my irregular periods and acne when I was younger.

  • I'm not sure why your doctor is recommending it unless you aren't being good about taking the pills on time every day. I personally wouldn't want my daughter using an IUD. I used birth control pills to help with bad periods and for when I was sexually active. I used pills for 24 years with no problems. Ask your doctor why he thinks this is the best option for you.

  • I heard that IUD's can cause issues for things like rough intercourse.

  • you will get used to it, it's better
not having to worry about preparations before, during and after sex will make your sex life so much better
