Would you hesitate to date an Asian woman because of people thinking you have an Asian fetish?

I've been with a few guys who have been made fun of for dating me because I'm Asian. Their friends or coworkers or family members would pick on them and ask if they have an Asian fetish. (I grew up in a very white town). It's all in good fun and I don't they anyone meant to come off rude. Except for one boyfriend who's family was actually racist. I was just wondering if that would bother anyone or if anyone would hesitate to date an Asian girl because of things like that. When I was younger it'd bother me because I'd think "wow so people think my boyfriend is only dating me because they think he has an Asian fetish?". Now I don't care.

  • I did initially tbh. i was worried what people would think of me. I was about 20 years old when I first considered dating an Asian girl. at 21, I finally had an Asian girlfriend. She was probably the best girlfriend I ever had. I really like Asian cultures, most have strong values and principles.

    I have had 2 chinese girlfriends, both were very nice ladies. All my friends used to joke and say I enjoyed "sushi" so stupid sort of annoying tbh. but the girls were worth it, so I put up with my friends stupid jokes.

  • I actually used to be nervous of this too when I was younger because my mom told me not to date anyone that wasn’t also Asian because they “want me for the wrong reasons”, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve noticed people have been a lot less unaccepting of interracial couples

  • Asian fetish? it's usually the other way around, Asian women have a fetish for white men, it's known that Asian care about whiteness even more than whites themselves care about whiteness. Anyway yea what people would say have some weight on my decisions.

    • I think it can go both ways. I'm Asian American and I don't fetishize white men, but I have encountered men (of any race) that definitely have an Asian fetish. Most Asians who have grown up in western society don't really follow what their country of origin may believe in. I personally like my darker skin and would never wanna be white

I think there's definitely a difference between an Asian fetish and a preference for Asians, but a lot of people where I'm from don't see a difference at all
