What's the point of NoFap?

Why do they always talk about it like if you don't masturbate or watch porn at all, it makes you a Superman. What is the point of nofap and does it really work?

  • Without realizing it men and a growing percentage of women have become addicted to porn. By the way you can get addicted to anything that gives your pleasure. The problem with any addiction is that it causes the frontal lobe of the brain to atrophy. The frontal lobe is what makes human beings different from any other animal and is responsible for executive functioning. So any addiction can cause impulsivity, make you more emotional, anxiety, depression. A porn and masturbation addiction can cause all of that and changes your perceptions and expectations of sex as well as your partner.

Now the trait of addictions is that they escalate! Once the brain builds up a tolerance to whatever is causing the large amounts of dopamine release you need stronger, more potent mediums to give you the same amount of pleasure. Porn addiction can escalate into violent and illegal forms of pornography, cause you to act out things you see in porn, in extreme cases it has developed into real life violence, sex with minors, and even impacted people’s sexual orientation!!

There’s a reason that there’s this Superman persona around quitting pornography and masturbation. Have I mentioned it can be as difficult, if not more difficult to kick than hard drugs? For a lot of people it can be the hardest thing they’ve done and once they stop it changes everything.

Some effects of freedom from pornography and masturbation is lowered depression and anxiety, improved sex life, deeper, more satisfying relationships, men report being more sexually attractive to women.

Lastly, this is incredibly important for religious people. A devout religious person caught in the grips of a pornography addiction while the world says looks down on you for being addicted to it, the feelings of hypocrisy and not being able to share the joy of their religion with others, SHAME so much shame! These things really impacts the quality of their lives. So religious porn addicts I think know the negative side effects more than anyone.

Oh and another thing. A common practice for businesses to create loyal customers is catch them while they’re young! Porn can be easily found by children and it’s not ok. It’s no different than some stranger coming right into your house and showing your child a porn magazine. This is illegal. I’m not all the way there yet but every day I lean a little bit more to thinking pornography should be outlawed. Instead of pornography, do something productive with your life, be yourself, we aren’t made for porn, we are made for each other. :)
