Should an SO be allowed to cheat if he or she isn't feeling satisfied in their relationship?

I just finished a movie about a horny depressed married woman who was ignored by her absentee cheating husband. It all started after she miscarried. Afterward, the husband just wasn't there for her: he left her to drown in her own misery, didn't compliment her looks, he even ignored her efforts in their workplace and outside of it. Plus forgot their anniversary, etc.

Then comes a charming man who basically tempted her and she cheats on her husband after resisting for quite a while

Note: The wife was very faithful prior to her husband's mistreatments

So my question: Was she validated? Is anyone validated for ANY reason?

Also, note, I understand a person could just divorce their partner or leave but I am curious what others believe

  • As someone who was told once "You drove me into his arms", then explained that because I was away from home 2-3 days at a time weekly for work (business trips to other cities), that it was my fault that she cheated because I wasn't there for her...

Yea, as someone who has been told that, I started noticing the lopsided American perspective on cheating, which is that if a woman cheats then she must have been the victim and was ultimately right to cheat.

If a man cheats, no matter what the circumstance, his SO is the victim regardless and she didn't deserve to be cheated on. "All men are pigs" is the end result no matter who cheats.

I despise the lopsided point of view most people seem to have on this.

  • No. If your relationship has problems, you solve those problems. If they can't be worked through, you end the relationship. Cheating is not only laziness, it's cowardice.

  • No that does not make it right

    • I explained in the description, he cheated first and mistreated her. . .

    • I know, but you implied that his cheating on it's own was not enough to justify her cheating. :)

    • No. I actually didn't share (directly or indirectly) what I thought on the matter

  • 'Allow' and 'cheat' can't happen together. If you're allowed to fuck someone else while in a relationship, that's not cheating.
As far as it's about cheating, there's no fucken excuse to cheat on anyone.

  • No instead of cheating she should just leave the husband first, than she can do whatever she want to do.

  • No. That's some stupid logic

  • Absolutely not. If she's unhappy she should have taljed to hubby. If he gives permission for her to have a lover the fine. But never an acceptable reason to cheat

  • No there is never an excuse to cheat, ever.

  • There. is. no. good. reason. no. good. justification. to. cheat... End of story end of discussion.

  • Nope. There's no good excuse to cheat. Either communicate that there's an issue or break up. Cheating is just selfish and frankly shitty behavior.

  • No. Three alternatives.

    1 leave the relationship.

2 discuss your sexual needs and agree a common ground.

3 discuss your sexual needs and suggest an open relationship based in trust, respect and love.

The 3rd one will only work if your relationship is strong emotionally.

  • It all depends on what is discussed with their partner and the agreements of that couple

  • They should just break up

  • No. They should end the relationship if they are unsatisfied and are unable to resolve the issue.

  • Cheating is never acceptable in any circumstances

  • Would you want yours to cheat?

    • What does that have to do with anything? Are you implying that I think cheating is ok? Maybe you should realize curious questions are just CURIOSITY

  • Cheating is always wrong no matter what

  • No, it's not OK. Better to get divorced.

  • No they should just terminate the relationship

  • Why not end up and then do whatever

  • No..
