  • Infant circumcision is immoral and should be illegal. Babies cannot consent, and I've never seen a good reason to support it - it has no medical benefits outside of conveniently already pro-circumcision areas.

    To respond to the typical arguments I see;
"Circumcision reduces the transmission of STDs"
No it doesn't, and even if it did, why are babies catching STDs a concern for you?

"I just think it looks nice"
I don't think you should be allowed around children or school zones. I think the police might like a look at your internet history.

"Nobody would get circumcised at 18!"
Then why assume an infant /would/ consent?

    "I was circumcised and I don't mind"
Listen, I'm happy that you're happy with your dick. Honestly, I am - but it's not about you. It's about the moral implications of whether it's right to continue to do the same to more kids. Why inflict something immoral on another baby just because it was done to you? Don't you see the problem there?

    • I totally agree with you.

    • There needs to be an age limit of 18 on circumcision. That's what they're looking to do in Denmark, Iceland, and Finland. That way adults can still choose to get circumcised, but children are all equally protected from genital cutting. The religious fanatics are freaking out, but it will happen sooner or later.

  • It is not a matter of great moment one way or the other. Certainly it should not be outlawed as it is part of a religious tradition in some cases. By the same token, it is not essential and seems superfluous outside that religious context unless there is some medical issue at stake.

For my part, I was born in 1963 when circumcision was as much cultural and the science of the time suggested that it might be of some benefit. My dad, however, was a doctor - Roman Catholic - and he saw no reason for it. Our religion did not require it and he thought the science dubious, so neither my brothers nor I were circumcised.

Frankly, I never noticed until being in the locker room in high school. Then I noticed the difference but nobody else in my gym class seemed to. In fact, even when I had sex for the first time at age 16, the girl I was with did not say anything.

Indeed, the first time it ever came up, ironically, was with my current girlfriend. We have lived together for nearly 15 years and have three children together. The first time she saw me naked, though, it was not even because we were having sex but were changing into our swimsuits at a beach house.

My girlfriend knew what an uncircumcised penis looked like but had never, so to speak, seen one "up close and personal." So there I was in all my uncut glory and my girlfriend blurted out, "That is so HOT!!"

Well, what guy does not want to hear THAT about his manhood? From that point on I saw the value in being "uncut" and so both our sons are uncircumcised. However, that is about as deep and profound as my thinking on the subject gets.

  • I'm very much opposed to routine infant circumcision. Removing healthy, functional erogenous tissue and permanently altering the sexual function of a minor who cannot possibly consent is ethically wrong and morally gross. If an adult choses to get circumcised after being fully informed about the procedures and it's consequences that's up to him. A man can always easily get circumcised later in life, often with better results, but it is impossible to fully undo a circumcision if a man wishes he were intact.

I was cut at birth but have since restored my foreskin. While my restored foreskin is much better than being circumcised, I'm still missing the nerve endings, the riged band, and a functional frenulum, and it took me years to get to where I am.

I have a 2 year old son, who has his whole penis, foreskin and all, and we haven't had a single issue with it. I'm glad to break the cycle of circumcision in our family, and hope it's part of a larger trend towards ending the practice of routine infant circumcision.

  • Yeah I'm absolutely not a fan of snipping baby dick.

    • It doesn't affect the penis.

    • Me neither Liz. I don’t see the point to it. Unless there’s a medical need for it.

    • Removing the ear lobe wouldn't affect hearing ability either, still don't want it snipped off. Also the glans loses sensibility, so the penis absolutely is affected.

  • I don't either.

  • I don't support it. Most circ is forced on infants without consent.

The STD study, HIV in particular, was shown to be flawed. Only the American AAP suggests it, but falls short of it being universal. Any other country condemns it, with some countries attempting to ban it.

It's mutilation. No other way around it. Men are slowly coming forward with stories of the experience, and some with lifelong pain from nerve damage. Frankly, I disagree with it as a religious view because the very freedom of religion then requires forcing genital cutting and amputation on another person against their will.

The damage and sensory loss are documented. 70-80% of the nerves are in the foreskin, and what remains on the glans will be covered by keratin. It's a horrible way to go, but the US has normalized male genital cutting while villifying female genital cutting. Isn't hypocrisy grand?

  • I do not. I actually have a son and I did not get him circumcised. My parents wanted me to but I couldn't bear the thought of my baby being cut on like that. So I chose not to get it done. He's perfectly healthy and hasn't had any sort of issues with it. Apparently it can become a problem in elderly men though, especially when they stop taking proper care of it.

  • if medical and/or choice then sure but if it's not done by choice or by a medical necessity then no

    • I agree with that

    • guys who have been circumcised tend to be less sensitive in that area. which can along them to last a bit longer then during sex.
    • but their is almost no real medical reason to remove the foreskin. provided the male keeps the area clean.
  • I'm indiffernet for the most part, but I hope the people who say they don't support it also doesn't support abortion.

Because if you do then you're a hypocrite.

    • I am in the middle for abortion. I don’t agree with abortion nor I do agree with it.

    • @CoolTeen same here.

    • That makes both of us.

  • When they circumcise me back in 1968 the way the doctor did it
I still have skin near the head of the penis so I'm sure it was a
    partial circumcision

  • Disgusting practice.

  • I do considering I had tight forskin my whole life and needed the surgery to make it better. I wish I had it done at birth

    • I personally glad it hasn’t been done to me.

    • I personally glad it was otherwise it would hurt every time I had sex

    • You know that tight foreskin can be treated without circumcision.

  • I wouldn't want to make it illegal or anything. Sometimes it can help with medical conditions.

    • I know some can be treated without circumcision.

    • I know but some can't. So if you made it illegal, you couldn't help those people. Like you I don't like the idea of doing it to unconsenting children though.

    • I totally agree with you.

  • No it is genital mutilation

  • I think it is healthier

    • It’s not healthier

    • I think it makes infections less likely.

    • Women get infections too. And we treat them with antibiotics.

Do you support circumcision? why or why not?
    • Someone has said to me before. The dildos have the the foreskin.

    • Same

  • yes I do

    • How come?

    • it's just something I think is better, however I don't enforce my beliefs on others

    • I think it’s wrong forcing circumcision on a person who can’t consent. But that’s just me.

  • I only support it if there is a medical need to do it.

    • Same.

  • I am against unnecessary FORCED genital modification of all ages and gender. Circumutilation is sexploitation of boys to carve their penis into signpost of parental beliefs & forced to prominently advertise thereafter for lifetime. Insert probe into the penis to&fro is baby rape.

  • I'm strongly opposed to infant and child circumcision. There is no medical reason for circumcision, and no developed nations other than the US do it. It's just painful and unnecessary cosmetic surgery, and causes life-long damage to sexual function. If you choose to get circumcised as an adult, knowing the risks and harms, that's foolish but your choice. No one has the right to carve their religion or personal preferences into a child's body. Period. Boys are born perfect, not needing surgery. Leave them intact and let them keep their whole bodies. Foreskin is healthy, functional, and feels amazing. Leave it attached to your son's body where it belongs.
