Did you ever tell your parents about when you lost your virginity?

If so, when? I talked to my mom about it the day after. It's probably different for most people, right?

  • Well, it helped that my dad caught his 17 year old son and his 16 year old girlfriend - and I mean right in the middle of it. It left any nagging ambiguities pretty much cleared up.

My high school girlfriend and I had lost our virginity to each other at age 16 and 15 respectively and we were having sex fairly regularly. At least as regularly as two people living in their parent's homes could have sex. Privacy was at a premium.

Long story short, my girlfriend came over one time when my mother and father were out and none of my siblings were around. Suffice to say, when the opportunity came, we took it. Then dad came home and... well... the rest, as they say, is history.

It was embarrassing, but the amazing thing is that my dad - though a pretty traditional church going Catholic - was also a doctor. He actually respected our privacy and took it in stride. I remember him telling both of us that he respected our privacy and our choice, that what we were sharing was beautiful, that he wished we had waited but was not going to object.

He did expect, however, that we would take the necessary precautions. We had been, in fact. Although we had not used birth control when we lost our virginity to each other, the next two weeks after our first experience that I spent worrying that I had got my girlfriend pregnant was enough to make us both more cautious.

Phew!! Thought the two of us. That was it. The only time it became an issue is when we got sloppy, did not use birth control and had a pregnancy scare when I was 18. I told my dad and that was less pleasant, though as a doctor he said that we should not jump to conclusions and it turned out he was right.

In a lot of ways my father became my confidant. When in my mid-20s I did get my girlfriend pregnant and she aborted the baby without telling me, I came home, confided to him and started to cry. I will never forget it. He held me like I was his baby again and comforted me.

It also made it easier when my current girlfriend - with whom I have lived for over 12 years and have three children together - got pregnant the first time, it made it easier to tell my parents. My parents had not been - and still really are not - too happy that we don't want to be married. However, it made a happy experience for me that much happier knowing that I could trust my Dad's reactions.

Funny postscript: About - literally - two weeks after the time my dad caught me, my brother came home and caught us. Hilarity ensues.

  • I noticed you are 15. If my sisters told my parents they lost it at 15 all hell would break loose.

If I ever had a daughter me and her mother would teach her about sex and hope she waits a long while before she gives away her virginity.

I do have to admit that if my 15 year old daughter was having sex I would lose my mind. I think fathers are very protective of their daughters. Sometimes overprotective.

In your case I hope your mother told you to always be safe. You never know if the guy has caught something girl and you surely don't want to get pregnant at 15. Just be safe about. AND NEVER LET A BOY USE YOU FOR SEX..

Just curious. How did your mother react. And your father.

  • Not exactly my mom found out I did the day I lost it to my ex boyfriend. She also found saw that I had been sexting him. I have a religious family so sex before marriage was considered a bad sin. She was extremely mad at me and cussed me out and she never cusses. That was angriest I had ever seen her. It was really rough on me but I repented and got closer to God now 😊

  • I spoke to my parent about a month after I had some concerns about the relationship and I needed answers I didn't go to my mom though I don't feel comfortable with her I went to my father.
He was very understanding of my concerns and he was very helpful.

  • No but i know they knew since i married him right away

  • Yes they knew before and when and where it would be.

  • Dad never asked. <3 Thanks dad! Meanwhile, my nosy mom tried numerous times to make me spill the beans but I never caved. All she knows is to whom I gave up my virginity to. No further details.

  • I told them that I had had sex (high school.. senior year) and that I used a condom. I did not give them any details.

  • I don't know how and if I ever told her. She knows I've had sex I'm pretty sure, but don't remember when I told her and how it went. I have a good relation with my mom and we tell each other whatever we wanna talk about.

  • i think with guys they just assume sometime between 13 and 18 but i kno grls talk to their moms a lot about it

  • Definitely not! My parents didn't even know I had my first kiss or anything like that until I told them I was pregnant. I'm sure in that moment they put it together that I was no longer a virgin😆😆

    • Humorous!!!

    • @HeadCase1 it's better they found out that way. There wasn't any weird conversation about protection since obviously I had already failed at that
