there are ways around it, but one has to be open minded enough to talk about it.
I thought i was having problems, but with the help of my wife, we have found that my problem wasn't really a problem physically, but it was a psychological issue that could be worked around...

now, where I used to have issues even getting hard enough to jack it, let alone STAYING hard enough to fuck with, it will stay hard for hours and SHE is the one saying when its time to stop...

That depends on so many things sometimes those things are medically easily fixed sometimes not so much I don't think there is any age for any of that to stop I know when my mom passed away and my dad was in his mid-70s... telling me a lot more than I wanted to know he told me what do you want it in a new wife... Surprised the hell out of me... And there is Viagra and it doed work in most guys situation... I mean there can be problems that those pills don't even work

Now you guys might try talking since sex can be a mental thing p*** and you may have tried those things but a blindfold and telling the story or him listening to something probably give me of its functioning will probably make it hard... the point is is getting his mind focused on something and keeping it focused there because part of it maybe his mind runs off to work or something like that I hope you guys find a good solution good luck

It's not unusual for things to change over time. Has he been to see a good urologist? That's first. Also a thorough physical is a good idea.

I don't know if it happens to every man no matter how old they get. I assume it happens eventually to all men, but I don't know that for sure, since I've never heard one way or the other.

But for sure it doesn't happen to most men until much older than 53. All the men I know in their 60s and 70s are sexually active.

At 53 I think it's likely due to something other than age.

Is he getting yearly physicals with blood work? A certain degree of it is normal with age but of course his doctor would want to rule out underlying illness such as heart disease or diabetes. Assuming he is fine medically, a low dose of Viagra or similar product might work wonders.

Different ages, depending on all sorts of things, i would advise seeing a doctor.
The doctor can better determine whats the reason and depending on that reason advise counter measurements.

Some guys start in their late 40’s and will struggle with getting it up and maintaining it. I think it progresses and gets worse as you get older. My doctor offers me the blue pill every year when I see him. I turn him down but he lays it all out just in case.
