If a man or woman were cross dressing, does that mean they’re gay/trans?

This one is really tricky for me because I’ve had people telling me that if you crossdress you’re gay but others are telling it’s more than just clothes that makes a person gay. Can you help me elaborate on this topic please? Thanks.

  • Coming from the TG community...
If you cross-dress, you are not gay. They are Trans to some degree.
You are gay or bi if you like to have sex with men.

Because CD's are part of the LGBT umbrella, it is assumed that cross-dressers are also gay. That is a fallacy. I can tell you many CD's are straight and even married.

    • Not all cross dressers identify as trans though. I don’t think Harry styles identities as trans to any degree

    • True, and Trans is more of those transitioning... my bad. But a CD would fit into the LGBT, where the 'T' stand for Transgender. Whether they identify or not as trans, they are still under that label.

    • I can totally see the confusion AndyOh but as someone who sees things left or right it’s hard for me to see things in the middle but I am doing better everyday to get that grey thinking in my head.

  • No. It’s not indicative of whether they are gay or not. It’s not indicative of if they are trans or not. It’s not a personality trait.

All it tells you is this person like wearing clothes traditionally for the other gender.

  • I think that to be officially gay, you have to have an intimate relationship with the same sex.

    LAURIE'S TRIBUTE TO CROSS DRESSERS

  • I don't know some people who do that are gay or trans, and others are not. For example Harry Styles and Bad Bunny both dress in “feminine” clothing and paint their nails. They both identify as male and date women. Bad bunny is also just straight. Clothing is just clothing to a lot of people, it doesn’t mean anything but simply creative freedom.

    • (Ignore the “I don’t know” part-I don’t remember what I was trying to say there)

    • Is Harry styles the one who used to be married to Taylor Swift? I thought I saw a photo of them as a couple together.

    • @Chasbo2 no they weren’t married they did date for a while though.

  • No, it does not. I'm bi and I've worn boy clothing before. But that doesn't make up my sexuality at all since I've always been both girly and boyish. Some crossdressers are straight, gay, bi, etc. Whether the individual is trans or not depends on them. Usually if a person is trans and crossdressing it means they're using it as a way to feel more like the gender they identify as (and to cope-especially if they're transitioning). The same can be said for femininity and masculinity too. Neither one fits a specific person, it's all about how they express themselves.

    • So why do you think most women want a divorce if they see their partner wearing the exact same clothing as they do? It would seem like girls would be more accepting of individuals.

    • I cannot say why. In this case you might mean a man who likes women's clothing who is married to a woman who does not like his crossdressing. The only things I can think of is the wife is not into that type of lifestyle so she might divorce because of incompatible. Especially if her husband is a transvestite (this is getting sexually aroused from crossdressing) and would like it in their sexual/sex life. I would say that maybe it's also because the wife does not wear anything from the opposite sex as well. There's many reasons as to why she might divorce though (even if it's a misconception).

  • If they are cross dressing it just means they are cross dressing.

Some of those may be gay as well, but most of them are not, as far as i know.

    • Then why do you think it’s hard for a man in women’s clothing to find that special someone? Because they get harsh treatment from both genders?

    • Yes, maybe... depends where you live, in bigger cities the acceptence is higher than in rural areas. But this is unrelated to the question... just because they crossdress and people may reject or distance from them, doesn't change their sexual orientation.

  • No, not at all.

  • to get a better grasp of the concept try watching almost any of "the drew carry show" after i think season 2. the guy playing his brother is a masculine straight man who cross dresses.

  • it often comes down to that

  • No. Being a transvestite is not indicative whether you are a homosexual or a bisexual.

  • Transvestite yes, transsexual maybe
