Well, my wife proved to me we have a double standard on nudity. Do you guys agree?

So I have this long time female friend who is studying art. Her name is Nikki. She wants to borrow me for a weekend of life drawings. She wants to present a series of 'a day in the life of a modern man'.

As she is a long term family friend, I explained how uncomfortable I would be, as she would know what I look like naked, like forever lol. She understood (Nikki is lesbian by the way) so she offered that while she draws me, we both get and remain naked. That should sort out the power imbalance. So I'm like, cool. That will work, but tell her only if my wife agrees that there will be drawings of me being naked somewhere.

So I speak to my wife, she seems fairly relaxed about the idea. And even asked if she could have a drawing to keep after it was all finished. So I then explained my insecurities, and explained Nikki's solution, then bang! Complete switch.

She insisted she would only allow it if Nikki kept her clothes on!

I didn't expect that. So I tried to make my case about how I wouldn't be that objectionable if she were to see another man naked. She then replied that it is not the male nudity that's the problem, it's the female nudity. She explained how both are different, and female nudity shouldn't be encouraged.

So she made her case again. She said, "I have no issue with Nikki seeing you naked, but I have an issue with you seeing her naked. Then by your own admission, you said you wouldn't mind me looking at another man if he was naked, right?" I nodded my head. She then said "but what about another man seeing me naked, would you be cool with that?"

She got me. Really did. I had to admit I wouldn't be cool with that. So she then got me to agree, that men and women have a double standard on nudity.

What do you guys think?

  • But she okay with other woman seeing you naked? your is likely just afraid that you would be attached to Nikki, and she pull a feminist excuses instead of admitting her jealousy. To be fair you are more likely to get aroused after seeing Nikki than the other way around, even if Nikki was not a lesbian, men tend to be more sexual than women, and women tend to take more care of their body aesthetically. Yes is sucks for you if you would be the only one naked, yes it create a power imbalance, no I don't think that female nudity less okay than male nudity, especially considering that women take more care of their body aesthetically, so usually they have more reasons to show more skin, and I don't think that it's a good thing for a man to be in a vulnerable position, men should be dominant not submissive, and looks like your wife is henpecking somewhat, looks like your wife also tricked you, you would not had been looking at other man's naked wife, because Nikki is a lesbian, so you not breaking the bro code, and as a man you supposed to be more territorial than your wife, also your wife is totally okay with other woman seeing you naked. In the end of the day you missed a opportunity to see Nikki naked because of your wife, and power imbalance in Nikki favor because of your wife, you might still be able to get an upper hand if you tell Nikki and your wife that you would get the whole thing pass unless Nikki would also be naked, and you can tell your wife that she can come keep an eye on you and see that nothing happen between you and Nikki, if she don't believe that Nikki is a lesbian, and your wife can also get naked to not be the only clothed person in the room, then you got to be in a room with two naked women, instead being the only one naked, that's how to turn a loss into a win, as a man should. :)

  • I've done this sort of thing. wife was doing live art. But nthe guy backed out. She volunteered me. He is always naked he will love it.

  • I think you are probably right but it is super stupid.

I think it originates with the idea that women should be pure, and that a man seeing them naked means the woman is a slut.

Men have always been encouraged to spread their seed at an early age while women are told not to touch themselves. Women are told to wait until marriage.

    • I'm not sure about seeing them naked, means we think they are a slut. Well, thinking on, perhaps you are right. Do men take a woman being naked as perhaps an invitation to sex? Probably we do. That said, I think other women might conclude that as well. So it's not just us men, seems it is a societal issue. And your right on the double standard we have for young men and young women. I know my parents were much stricter with my sister with going out when we were young, while I had free reign to do what I liked, near enough. It would also explain events just before our wedding. My wife insisted no stripper for my Stag, but she had a male stripper for her Hen. And I wasn't really that bothered she did. Though she would have been fuming if I had a female stripper for my Stag lol. How odd we really are!

    • @SarahP080102 his wife was showing a feminist double standard, not a conservative double standard, note that she okay with female privileges of seeing a man naked, though ironically feminists and religious people tend to have a similar view on female nudity.

  • Culturally, I think I have been trying to figure it out for a few years now. As a teenager boy, I had always been told that there was nothing sexual in lifting my body parts on command and spreading my cheeks apart to be inspected in front of my female freind's of the same age after swimming or mud bowl until I was asked about it by a female friend from out of town.

  • yeah I would agree with that
