that's not how the story comes across to me. she was a bit of a tomboy whose love for her family was greater than her own life. she got in over her head and earned her father's honor in the end which is why he was willing to sacrifice his life to protect his daughters. maybe the story is about the fathers willingness to accept a daughter that acts like his son because she knows that's what he wanted her to be?

i hope that's not really happening today. why have a child when you can abort it once you know the sex? that's murdering a baby if you carry it through to birth. sounds like they created their own imbalance of gender in a very cruel and inhuman way. i mean even genetics can tell you what you are likely to have. if that's the case then people should be marked by that so that there is no more deaths of unwanted babies but mulans father had two daughters. the soldiers did not come to kill his daughters

It's not the government that do that, it's the parents themselves, and yes it's why china has a gender imbalance, aborting based on gender is still bad, aborting based on defects make more sense.

They used to allow only one, later they made it two if the first one is a female, so less parents would kill their daughters, but the female infanticide in china was happening even before that. China has overpopulation problems so it seems to be one of the reasons for that phenomenon in china.

there's so much open farming land (it's owned) and overpriced for farmers but if we could reverse that we'd have a chance. some areas lower land prices if the purpose is farming. farming is so expensive to do. it's easier to start a vineyard and more profitable
