Why do you think women are sexualized in Hollywood?

I've noticed more often, that movies and shows have been more sexualized. More nudity, sex and revealing outfits. I feel like women are being more objectified these days.

Whats your take on this?

  • In all the movies over the years, how many vaginas have been shown?

Now, how many penises have been exposed?

If you dig around, you'll find that there has been a lot of penises exposed but very vew, if any, vaginas.

Sure you'll see pubes, but no vagina, because then it ends up as a porn, but not so if you see a penis.

I heard you see Chris Pines' penis on more than one occasion in Outlaw King. There's not really much more guys can expose in movies and shows unless they start having erections and ejaculated.

Bare chest? Well, you see men's bare chests far more often than women's bare chests in movies. One would argue that women's breasts are more sexualised than men's chests, but that's simply due to conditioning over decades, but don't tell me some women don't get something out of seeing a guy's exposed chest / body from time to time.

    Butts are on par.

So generally speaking, one sees more men exposed in movies and shows than women, but it happens so often, it's simply normalised.

In reality, both genders get sexualised. There's simply more outrage and people getting triggered when it happens to women.

    • Women don't find random men's penises to be sexy.

    • Also, as for penises, it's not really comparable because you can see a penis in a totally nonsexual context. A guy can just be sleeping naked, get up, and his penis is shown but it is not a sexual context. You can't see a vagina unless the woman is spreading her labia open for no apparent reason, which isn't realistic, or she's having sex or masturbating, which are sexual contexts. So it's not really comparable. Also I don't really see penises often in media anyway.

  • Women aren’t sexualized in Hollywood. They are sexualized because of evolution. They are exploited by Hollywood. Big difference. As part of the human condition we have evolved to perpetuate the species. Certain features have become engrained in our genes to become more attractive (more successful) for the survival of offspring. For example the voluptuous figure. Wider hips (subconsciously) suggest that she will have an easier time giving birth thus the offspring will survive. But to give the illusion of wider hips women have evolved to have smaller waists. The same is true about breasts. Humans females are the only species on the planet that have breasts while not child bearing. Women have evolved to this signal purely for the purpose of showing their potential for feed a newborn and its survival. Of course breast size has nothing to do with it but subconsciously it appeals to our instincts.
So it’s not Hollywood sexualizing women. However!!! Hollywood is exploiting the subconscious instincts we have. Sex is the driving force for all humans. So the more you can make references to sex and the female body the more it will attract men and women. For example. The Coca-Cola bottle was designed to have the same soft curves as the female figure. It appeals to our sexual subconscious. I know people will say that that it doesn’t doesn’t sexually appeal to them because they are women. But that’s not true at all. Next time you’re at target or Walmart go to the shaving razor section. You’ll see that women’s razors have a very soft curve to them. It is solely designed that way because women find that shape appealing too. Men’s razors are very stiff angular and manly.
We all exploit sex in some way or another in Hollywood sometimes it is subtle like in the movie ALIEN or the cartoon my little pony, and sometimes it’s in your face.

    • Hey could u pls answer on my question?

    • Lol, a paid actor is exploited I guess.

    • @6suejsjsj that is correct. I said exploit. This is because the definition of “exploit” has nothing to do with being “paid”.
      dictionary.cambridge.org/us/amp/english/exploit
So before you laugh at things, why not try exploiting your brain to understand many words don’t have negative or positive connotations. However I get the feeling that’s either not possible or might make your head hurt.
I love helping people who ask questions, however when people exploit their own stupidity and laugh due to their own ignorance, I truly relish in making them feel as dumb as they look. Perhaps next time they will think twice before publicizing their idiocy.

  • It wouldn't bother me so much if it was done in taste by freedom loving Americans but they are all marxist/communist pedophiles who are running Hollywood, which includes not just the men, but the prominent Hollywood elite women as well like Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degenerate! ... they all make me sick!!! ... THERE I SAID IT!!

  • Look, sexualizing women hurts EVERYONE male and female, except the ones making cash off it. With women, it puts them as if brainless objects, but it also treats men like desperate idiots instead of people. It's dehumanizing in every sense. The real sure way to stop it is to stop demand. Guys gotta stop simping and worshiping pussy 24/7. That goes away, it will eventually sink in it won't sell anymore. BUT women need to get their shit together too, because a quick look at how well 50 shades of grey and Twilight did shows just what many women are thinking and are cause for less sympathy when they then cry of rape and abuse. It may not be as apparent, but yes, men DO get sexualized and judged for looks, arguably MUCH harsher as well, which actually explains why sexualized men in media don't happen as much because, while the average woman is fine in most men's head, an average man by looks alone likely won't impress nearly the same amount of women.

So yes, I question the same thing, but let's not be hypocritical here, acting like objectifying only targets women.

  • It used to be women sexualized more but men DO get sexualized too... Hollywood sexualizes period... Both on screen and "behind the scenes"...
And it's not just Hollywood, look at the music industry, and music videos, those sexualize way more... And even men, if you ever heard of the
Milli Vanilli Scandal where they were basically using them for their looks

Why do you think women are sexualized in Hollywood?
  • Its just a way to cater to the male audience, to make sure that men buy tickets to watch their stuff.

  • Not just hollywood lmao that happens almost in every media outlet. Everyone turns their head towards the pretty girl, and media profits from it.

  • Everyone is sexualized in Hollywood, including men (but yes women even more so) because sex sells. How many times have you heard a guy or girl say they were going to see a film just based on how hot the leading actor/actress was? Happens all the time. They want these people to be as desirable as possible to keep you interested and seeing their movies.

Also, as the viewer, let's be honest. We would rather see a pretty face than an unattractive one. Not that anyone should be sexualized to the point they are seen as a object, ever.

  • two words:

    SEX SELLS

Most of these "sexualized" movies are things men want to go see...

  • Same reason as everything else that happens there. Money.

  • Sex sells. Period. Sexuality is censored less and less over time, so there is more in movies.

  • Women are a sellable commodity.
    Always has been

    • Never heard a girl say that before.

  • To get more views of course. It’s about what makes more money.

  • It makes money. But be careful with passing judgment on women that do this. A lot of women with sexual hang-ups look at this kind of thing and lack the empathy required to actually understand what a woman might be getting out of it. I've legit heard women try to claim that the whole kink BDSM scene and Fifty Shades of Grey stuff is all just male fantasy fluff. You have to be pretty detached from reality to believe that men make up the majority of the viewers of that movie or any media similar to it.

  • Women do not get sexualized unless

    1. Men create a demand for the sexualization, and

    2. There are women who are agreeable to being featured for their sexual attractiveness.

However, if you take away this opportunity for women, you DECREASE their options. Wouldn't feminism want women to have as many choices as possible,?

    • Thats ridiculous. If you decrease the option to sexually exploit themselves, they have less options for media success? Thats just fucking wrong and idiotic

    • I understand that you don't like the idea that some women would choose that as an option, but it is simple math. Women have "X" number of options. Take one option away and now they have "X-1" options. As I understand math, X-1 < X. Please avoid name calling if you choose to reply.

    • I was calling the theory idiotic not you.

  • one reason only. because there is more money to be made...

no matter what one is selling or looking at, a hot chick will get loads more attention when doing the part, than Mrs Doubtfire would... maybe some dont like it this way, but its a FACT...

  • They are sexualized everywhere, not only in Hollywood. Such as when people do catcalling to them.

  • I have produced short films & videos. When i gave women the job of designing the clothing it was much more revealing than what I would’ve done. And in one case the same woman who created the look came to me after production to accuse me of being sexist in how the outfits were so revealing. I reminded her that SHE is the one who created that look with zero pressure from me. I learned that from a woman’s POV everything is a man’s fault.

Ask yourself why the same women who complain about men objectifying them will walk around all day in skin tight yoga pants. It’s ridiculous.

    • The same women who use their looks to get acting jobs & have no problem elbowing out more experienced/talented actresses wait until their looks fade & the job offers stop coming to complain about Hollywood hiring based on looks. Hmmmm. In some countries those same women would’ve NEVER had a job at all because they didn’t bother to put in all the work to become a good actress.

    • megan fox properly love showing off her body for sure

  • This is so men find average women not beautiful, so the average women go on to find cosmetic solutions that bring about money to the industries that financed the movies etc.
Also in general the goal is to get us to become cyborgs in the future so the goal is to get us not to like the opposite gender, cause sexual confusion, and this results in less sex and romantic relationships creating a perfect cyborg worker who can donate 24/7 to companies.

  • Women are sexualized in Hollywood the same way women are sexualized everywhere. Society tends to a value a woman's physical appearance over everything else in a woman's life.

I don't think this is more common in movies than it used to be. There are a wide range of movies since the 1950s that have sexualized women.

  • Simple sex sells, ain't the popcorn or the Rick drawing men in to the theaters ok maybe the Rick as black Adam, but it ain't the hulk, ok with iron man Thor and rest of em, but it's sex that's why

    • That was to be the rock not Rick

  • To sexualoze women and young girls, and because it pays

  • Sex sells, that's the reason... it can be really annoying as many females are sexualised and in multiple cases women have less developed characters, but it isn't going to change any time soon because of the money it makes

  • I think it is because the male creators of the media are horny and want to see naked people. That's why, in media created by gay men, you see men being unnecessarily sexualized in the same way women are sexualized in media created by straight men. I give a couple examples below.

    https://www.youtube.com/embed/i5LxToszcWshttps://www.youtube.com/embed/AHgCdaTmrAw

However I don't think it's as bad for men because if they don't want to be objectified then they can just get an acting role in one of the myriad movies/shows that are created by straight men. Meanwhile women don't really have any opportunities; they HAVE to submit to sexualization if they want any media representation at all, and that's horrible.

    • Women are simply overly sensitive. It's normal for a guy in a movie to be shirtless but for a women it is "ObJEctiVication"

    • @6suejsjsj men are allowed to go shirtless in public but women aren't, which should demonstrate that these aren't exactly the same. Society views male toplessness as nonsexual but female toplessness as sexual.

    • I never see men running around shirtless but whatever.
