My mom forced a thermometer up my bum or something?

I am literally in shock. My mom noticed I felt hot so she said she would take my temperature. She told me to come upstairs and I was a little confused and then she told me to lay down. I protested so she told my older sister to hold me down. I was literally mortified and didn’t know what she was doing. She took the thermometer with no lube or any warning and just shoved it up my bum. It felt so weird and I started to cry and protest. It felt wrong and I don’t really know what to do. I asked her why she did it and she said it was because it’s the most accurate and she wanted to find out if I was telling the truth. I am so embarrassed. Was what she did wrong?

  • Number one that was not necessary. Number to she could have seriously ended up hurting you. Number three, in a sense she is correct that is one of the most accurate ways to get a temperature reading. But so is the armpit. The real question is simply put do you actually feel like you have a fever? And did you actually have a fever? At the end of the day she is your mother, but she should have never done it that way.

    And your sister should have never done it that way either. That's wrong. And I could be seen as Gulf of it as abuse. I just think that your mother was not being mindful of what she was doing. And that is not really much that can be done about it. As if the next time you tell her that the next time she wants to take your temperature she does it the right way. Not like that. I wouldn't have done that. And that is really nasty to do that without a slip and lube. She could have used some Vaseline.

  • A rectal temperature reading IS the most accurate- there's no doubting that fact.
    Oral (sublingual - under the tongue) is the second most accurate if you have not had anything to eat, drink or in any other way change the temp of your mouth for at least 15 minutes.

    Now, you didn't mention anything about that which she would be concerned about needing the truth, so maybe you are hiding something.

    From my view, the only technically "wrong" thing she did was not to put a dab of petroleum jelly on the tip to ease the entry. You and you family will have to deal with any personal propriety standards. Trust goes both ways.

  • Your mother used your complaint as an excuse to pull your panties down and look at you naked. If she was really interested in obtaining a rectal temperature, she could have left the thermometer with you, with something to lubricate it, and instructions, and left you in privacy for a few minutes.

    If you are 15, as your profile states, I think you are too old to have a parent doing that to you, even if it is your mom instead of your dad. How strongly do you feel about what she did to you?

  • Believe it or not, it is the most accurate way to measure body temperature besides an open flesh wound (which you don't really want), but was it right to forcefully do what she did? Of course not. The method is used on babies, because it is easier to lift the legs and insert the thermometer in the anus, than to have a baby keep it under the armpit or under the tongue. But, lube is always used, because you can bruise the inside. It's not something worth reporting if it hasn't happened repeatedly, but make sure it doesn't happen again. It is definitely a violation of a kind.

  • Honestly that is one of the most accurate was to get the temperature however I would guess she caught you lying before and decided to punish you for your lie while getting the truth. Since some kids use anything from hot water to heaters to change it..

  • I think the situation you described would arrouse me too much to protest, but I do think that your mother was wrong to not give you the choice to let her get your temp before violently taking it. A rectal temp is the most accurate.

  • Well, to take one's temperature by sticking a thermometer up their rectum/ bum has gone out many years ago so your Mom must be old fashion cause most temperatures are taking with sticking the thermometer under the tongue and they have ones you can place on your forehead so tell Mom she needs to improve her skills

  • A rectal thermometer is the most accurate; and it should be small enough to not use lube. But that seems a little bit more extreme than necessary.
