What does it mean when a guy scratches your palm with his finger? How do you deal with such a situation?

Recently i started hanging out a lot with a guy that i met about a year ago. I thought he was funny and cute. So yesterday we were out when he grabbed my hand and scratched my palm with his finger. When I say scratch, I mean rub his finger down the centre of my palm in a tickling motion. My immediate reaction was to pull my hand back quick like i had been electrocuted. It disgusted me and made me so uncomfortable. I asked him to tell me why he did so because its not a common gesture.
His explanation was that scratching one's palm meant leaving luck in it. I was in a daze because as a child i was told that it's a nasty invitation to intimacy. I gave him the benefit of doubt but it definitely left a bad impression.
I asked 3 people about it,2 thought it meant sex and that he definitely lied to me, the other said he likes me. Am confused
Did he lie to me? Did I make a mistake trusting him? Does the finger scratch have a universal meaning?

I guess I’m naive I wasn’t thinking sex at all lol just that he likes you. I love having the inside of my atm stroked so to me it’s not sexual at all it just feels really peaceful BUT That’s for s boyfriend to do in my opinion... if you guys are just friends, it’s odd. I wouldn’t like it.
