How to tell someone it's not cool for them to hook up with other people without sounding controlling or hysterical?

Have you ever told anyone it hurts that they hook up w/ other people and successfully have them stop doing that? or does it end in fighting, anger?

  • Once again a question that is impossible to answer without knowing the context of the relationship between the two individuals. I wonder if people write questions like this on purpose

    • Oh ok, so you haven't decided to be exclusive with them yet but want them to be exclusive with you. Makes perfect sense and not contradictory at all 👌

    • lol. no no. Since we started going on dates and getting intimate and stuff, I naturally assumed we were exclusive (silly of me, I know) and I definitely haven't been with anyone else throughout this time, but recently I found out he is still seeing other people

    • Probably because it sounds like y'all haven't actually talked about being exclusive

  • If you want an exclusive arrangement, say so. If they're not down for it, move on.

    • You're right

  • I mean, is this person a friend, a boyfriend, a sibling? A total stranger?

    • Someone you've been dating for 2 months...

    • Did you guys agree to be exclusive? In any case, if you've expressed a boundary to him and he claims you're "controlling" or "hysterical", dump him. He's not going to get better and you certainly deserve better. He's gaslighting you, no joke about it. No two ways about it. That's a red flag. Strong chance a man who gaslights a 2 month girlfriend is going to be abusive.

    • You are absolutely right

  • Something like will not end well, it may be seen as controlling.
It’s best to just go on and find someone who’s not a dick.

    • True

  • Almost always ends in fighting. It's no one's business but our own who we sleep with.

    • I guess you are right
