  • The BC pill is one of the most effective methods of BC, but it only works at maximum efficiency if taken consistently, because the amount of hormones needs to remain fairly stable. That's why doctors tell you to take the pill at the same time every day. The pills have a time-release function to release hormones slowly over about 12 hours, which is enough to keep their level high enough to prevent pregnancy, but if you take it at 9am normally, but one day you forget or whatever and don't take it until 6pm, then instead of a 12-hour interval between hormones being released, it's now almost 24, and there's a chance that your hormone levels could have dropped enough to become pregnant (assuming you're having sex and he's ejaculating inside you, of course).

Another very common problem is that doctors seem to be terrible at telling women when they're prescribing medications that affect hormonal BC methods. One of those is most antibiotics, and there are lots of non-GPs that prescribe antibiotics - with perhaps dentists being the most common - and they seem to almost never mention this issue, but taking antibiotics significantly lowers the effectiveness of hormonal BC. If you get an infection, and you are taking 10 days of antibiotics, assume that your BC is ineffective for about 15 days (the 10 days you're taking the antibiotics, and another 5 while they clear your system).

The little pamphlet with the micro-writing that is included with your BC pills will tell you these things, but who reads those? Who CAN read those - they're printed in about 2-point type, such that you need a microscope to read them.

Antibiotics aren't the only meds that interfere with BC either, so anytime you take any other medications - over the counter or prescribed - you need to check for interference with BC, and ask your doctor specifically if that's an issue. Otherwise, your BC pills might as well be TicTacs.

  • Most women who are on pills don't use condoms, it's fairly paranoid to use both pills and condoms, and it likely to ruin the enjoyment from sex, because each birth control has an downsides. If people use a birth control correctly then pregnancy very unlikely. So you consider doing it with him bare? you would likely enjoy in more that way, and feel closer, because pills tend to be associated more with a serious relationship, while condoms tend to be associated more with a casual relationship, also even if you get pregnant from him, is that really all that bad? you said that you see future with him and that you want to marry him. :)

    • Because I don’t want to ruin his life. We’re both college students and have a future ahead of us

    • I see, but you also mature enough to have a sex, so you should be ready for the possibility of becoming parents, it's not likely to happen if you on pills, but it not the end of the world if you have his baby.

  • Basically the pill makes your brain think you are pregnant so ovulation stops. After a while because the pill is a toxin the liver detoxifies it, and certain foods can affect it also and medicine. So therefore you ovulate again.

Also the pill is a abortive so it causes miscarriages. So it's possible to loose the child.

So there is a element of getting pregnant with the pill.

  • There is a risk of failure even if you don’t forget.

Condoms are safer when combined with bc but tbh they don’t feel that great for either of you so if you’re on bc and you’re religious about taking it you can probably get away with letting him pull out and cumming on your boobs

  • I have gotten prego 2 times before on BC pills.. if you are esp fertile, it can happen.

My obgyn had me on BC pills AND an IUD.. that helped a lot.

The teen girls here where I live are on both BC and IUDs coz they are very sexually active and we don't want any babies.

We are considering the in the arm bar thing they have been advertising on tv lately.. good for 3-5 years I think...

See your obgyn to discuss options best for you if you want to get on BC.

    • Did you not take it on time? Also how about bc and condoms paired together? I actually want to try sex without condoms at least once and then have him pull out but I don’t know

    • i took my pills on schedule... i agree with Gwenhwyfar.. condoms cut your feeling and his and make for a poor sexual experience. Pulling out is akin to watching a sex porno vid.. it is messy, and as a woman, you get NOTHING from it orgasm or feeling wise. I suggest getting on good BC and maybe an IUD.. then he doesn't have to wear a rubber or pull out. sex all the way to the end, (him cumming inside you) is the way our bodies are made for and for the ultimate enjoyment.

    • I can’t afford an iud right now :(

  • There isn't a 100% prevention method in existence. Like a vasectomy is the closest it gets and still people have managed to get pregnant with it.

Nothing you do will enable the sex to be risk free so that he could go in raw and finish inside. If he does that there's a chance of pregnancy.

That being said when the odds are so low it's unhealthy to keep worrying about it. Like if you can't help it maybe don't have sex, but when you do, you gotta play the full game.
(Make sure he's wrapped up tight too)

  • I got the Mirena IUD so I have no idea tbh. But I do have unprotected sex on it and I've had it for over a year now and I have not gotten pregnant or even had a period. But you do need to be consistent with the pill because if you miss a dose your body will start ovulating again. Also I believe antibiotics also interfere with the pill form of birth control.

  • Well, birth control and every other sexual protection are not 100% effective. So there's always a chance of pregnancy.

    • So it’s only effective when you pair them with condoms? What if he pulls out?

    • The only 100% protection from getting p pregnant is abstinence. Anything else, there is a possibility. Even when using multiple options

  • You are 19. You are an adult and it's normal for you to go to medical appointments by yourself. It's normal for you to get contraception and it's normal for a 19-year-old to be sexually active. Try reminding your mother that you are an adult, that you still love her, but you are going to love your life.

    • How about an 18 year old? I was 18 when I lost my virginity

    • 18 is legally adult you know that lol 😂💗

    • I know just a bit of an overthinker as usual XD

  • There is no sure fire 100% dependable birth control other than NOT having sex. Just that simple. Doubling up on contraceptives lowers your chances of pregnancy by far so yes you’re better off using the pill or whatever birth control plus a condom.

    • getting pregnant while your taking the pill regularly is rare but can happen. because it tricks your body into thinking your already pregnant. which you typically can't get pregnant when your already currently pregnant.
    • if your unsure about it can continue to use condoms for an extra level of protection. since in many cases 2 options to reduce risk of pregnancy is better then 1. in case 1 option should happen to fail for some reason.
    • only clear way to avoid risk of pregnancy is to not have vagina sex. so you either do it in other ways or not at all. because no birth control option for either sex is 100% effective. which is why they only claim they are 90% or so effective by themselves.
    • The only clear way to avoid risk of pregnancy is to not have sex, but where's the fun in that? :)

    • @Berethor if a girl sticks to handjobs, oral and/or anal. good chance should won't get pregnant either. unless the guy pulls out and releases his load pretty much on top of her vagina. so some of it gets into and manages to knock her up. which is rather rare but could happen.

    • @Reaperbot666 oral is not true sex, and many girls don't enjoy anal, so it not a good choice.

      tvtropes.org/.../TechnicalVirgin

  • If you miss one pill you still have about 24H depending on what type of pill you're taking. After those 24H is better to use a condom on the safe side.

  • Nope. The pill isn’t 100% effective.

  • That is a possibility but the biggest one is they take antibiotics when they have an infection when they are sick and those antibiotics disrupt the birth control's ability to prevent getting pregnant. That's what happened to a friend of mine with his ex wife. She never wanted to have kids and they got married. She was bc but she took antibiotics for a sinus infection. Well they did not wait till after she got better to allow the bc to start working again and he now has a daughter. 😂

  • Cuz there's is still a 12 % chance of getting pregnant thats why you havd to uss condoms to even if on the pill then with condoms an k jelky you can't get pregnant not unless you buy our datdd condoms an try to make condom last more 20 30 minutes

  • Any time you have sex, there is a chance of pregnancy, a condom having the highest chance of prevention.

  • They get pregnant intentionally. They are lying about taking the pill or using other BC. Overwhelmingly, when a girl says the pregnancy was an "accident", she is lying.

  • If you are not sure, you probably shouldn’t be having sex! Talk to you gynecologist or your mother to find the right information.

    • I just use condoms

    • I know you’re just the message that was Not an attack on you to anything~~~ it was just the thought of it 😅

    • 🙊 wrong space 🤦‍♀️

  • I heard that when taken on a regular base for a while, it takes some days for the pill to stop working.

  • Do u really have the gaurantee the guy will always be able to pull out?

    • He already does it with the condom

    • U mean he never came in u? Even ur mouth

    • When I sucked him yes

  • Because birth control is not a perfect method to guarantee pregnancy won't occur. It only lessens the likelihood. It still is possible. It controls the chances of pregnancy but isn't a sure fire way that it won't happen.

  • The chance of getting pregnant while using the bc pil is a little less than 1%, what makes it still possible. But the chance is very very low.

But when you forget a pill the chance of getting pregnant is a lot higher, at that point you can't trust that it will protect you.

When combined it still doesn't protect you 100% condoms can break or leak.

AND PULLING OUT isn't BIRTH CONTROL. DONT DO IT. THE PRE SPERM STILL CONTAINS SEEDS THAT WILL GET YOU PREGNANT.

  • The pill works by mimicking your own hormones released during pregnancy; so your ovaries think that you are already pregnant so as to not release an egg this month. So it is unlikely that you will get pregnant if you take the pill everyday.

    • Wow that does sound horrid lol who wants to feel like they are pregnant all day vey day for most of their life 🤢

    • @VIVANT Well it is just the hormones and not the actual kid. So not entirely like your pregnant.

    • Lol damn have u been on bc? I might start taking it my dad is worried about me
