Why are people so offended over nudity?
Really why do people get so offended over seeing people nude? Like its completely natural and nudity isn't always a sexual thing either so what's the issue it?

  • So what are the laws affecting public nudity?
Generally, in America, nudity is against the law in public places. Moreover, nudity is also generally illegal on a person’s own property if the nude person is visible to the public, such as through an open window or sunbathing nude in someone's yard. While most state laws are clear about nudity around children and nudity meant to arouse, some other wording is vague and violations often are a matter of community standards for indecency. Of course, in some situations, these laws may conflict with constitutional protections for freedom of expression, particularly if the nudity is part of an artistic performance or political demonstration.

Following is a state-by-state synopsis of nudity laws. Some more obvious laws have been omitted for the sake of brevity, and common sense should be employed (e. g., nudity on school grounds or around children who are not your own will likely never be legal).

There are no federal laws either for or against nudity, except to the extent that it may be protected under the First Amendment right to freedom of expression. Local laws will take precedence when the question of nudity relates to federal lands, such as federal parks, beaches, and other facilities.

In some states, there are public lands where nudity is allowed or simply tolerated. There are also private facilities where nudity is allowed in almost every state, with the usual requirement being that the nudity must simply not be observable from outside, public areas.

New York, Hawaii, Maine, Ohio, and Texas are unique in that they each have laws expressly allowing women to go topless in any location where men could do so legally.

    • Dang I've lived in ohio and texas and didn't know that law lol

    • LOL.

    • A couple of clarifications. You state that nudity around children not your own will likely never be legal. The obvious mistake there is that children are usually found with families at nudist facilities and is legal. Also, there are many who practice nudism at home, and children being nude around people other than family is generally acceptable if both families know about it and accept nudity as okay. As for federal laws, child pornography is illegal by federal laws and nude photos, videos, etc. of children are generally considered to be for prurient interest when distributed. One would have to prove they were not for that purpose to be legal, as when they are included as a part of family activity in nudist publications. Other than those two points, you have presented an excellent overview of the legality of nudity in America.

  • so this some down to history, practicality and religion.

Historically cloths are used to protect the skin from the sun as everyone was outdoors. This is especially true for regions where there isn't much trees/shade OR places that were extremely cold. So cloths is a thing to protect us from the elements. Now cloths can also protect us from other dangers such as scratches or contact with poisonous plants. I won't go into armor as that is self explanatory. Now add religion that says the body is scared and should only be shown to your... SO or partner. Public nudity is not accepted because it doesn't make sense plus religion says it is bad.

Now, we can see that some places are acceptable like bath houses because there weren't widely available showers or baths like we have today. So nudity is probably more acceptable at that time and place than anywhere else.

So yeah I think we are just accustomed to being clothes out of practicality, shamed through the eyes of religion, and there is no need to be publicly seen naked outside our own bathrooms and bedrooms.

Think about it, how would we be able to achieve a nudist life style outside of a perfectly controlled climate? No one would want to be outside during the summer or winter. Only spring and fall maybe a good time for some regions. It's a nice idea and dream. Probably the only places right now are nudist beaches and co-ed bath houses or Spas.

  • I don’t think nudity is a bad thing, but the way men think and try to justify shit like rape, it’s unsafe, but we should blame the rapist instead of the woman. Let them know that just because a girl is wearing less clothes than usual that doesn’t give them the moral or legal right to touch her without consent.

Our problem is that we want to be comfortable and be able to breastfeed without people staring at us like we’re cockroaches.
The guy’s problem is that they’re... horny? Okay? Men get horny when they see girls in general, whether they’re naked or not. Does it make you cry because you can’t go up and touch on that girl over there wearing the miniskirt? If so, you obviously need help. You can relieve yourself at home, we aren’t responsible for you thinking with your dick and not your brain. Tits are not sexual and I believe we should be able to take off our shirts just like men, especially when we’re breastfeeding our literal children.
I personally don’t want to see a guy or a girl fully nude with their underwear off, because some guys have absolutely disgusting cocks and some women have absolutely disgusting vaginas, however, I know that if it disgusts me I just have to look away.
Also, if nudity was legalized, I doubt many people would go nude if they were self conscious about their body, scared of being raped, uncomfortable with being nude or embarrassed, or for religious reasons. You probably wouldn’t have to worry about seeing someone’s genitals if they aren’t to your liking, because a lot of people would be uncomfortable anyway.

    • Also, men, please think about it like this: you’d know who to hook up with and what they look like down there already, isn’t that a good thing for you guys?

    • Yesss! This is the best response I've gotten on this question. So many of these guys try acting like their lack of self control is the issue of women showing off to much. Which that is totally not our faults at all.

  • I'm not offended by naked bodies. With that being said, I'm a huge fan of clothes and not seeing ass, tits, dick, and balls everywhere I go.

  • I just dont feel it should be all out there in public. If i wanted to see tits, ass, dick, and booty, i could easily cut on some porn. Clothes were made for a reason 🤷‍♀️ But thats just my take on it.

  • I don't get it either. What's wrong with the human form? Artists have used it as subject matter since the dawn of time because humans see humans as the ultimate art form. Why should photos or videos be any different?

I think it's great when good looking people are proud of their appearance. Granted, there are some bodies I would rather not see. But I have the ability to look away. There is also such a thing as bad taste, but that is a subjective thing.

I'll admit that I'm not interested in male genitalia because I'm not gay. But I can appreciate the ideal male form. For me, one of the most beautiful things in the world is the female form. What could be more adorable or bring more joy? I think of it like other wonders of nature or fine art. It's something to be admired and appreciated. The human form is also erotic. What's wrong with that? Sexuality adds spice to life. It's human nature.

I do find prudes extremely annoying. People who denigrate women who are proud of their bodies are cretins. In my experience, many of them have conservative and even misogynistic religious beliefs.

  • I don't get it either. Nudity is such a non-issue in our family that sometimes I forget that not all families are nudists!

    • Most families are definitely not nudists 😆 it's good that your that comfortable tho

    • I was having a conversation with a co-worker and I mentioned that my son demanded to get in the shower with me a few days ago, and she was appalled that my son saw me nude. Like really? Why?

    • That's stupid. Especially with little kids, they could care less if they see their parents nude

  • And why does it itch so much to show your whole body?

    • Its not about showing my body. Its about being comfortable in my own skin and comfortable with others bodies too

    • I'm talking about those who take it to the EXTREME.

    • What's considered extreme? Like being a nudist 24/7?

  • No reason to be.
Let's keep on spreading the message.
Maybe in a hundred years or so, there'll actually be one or two more nudist parks in the U. S.

  • I agree I like nude I even like 3/4 nude lol sometimes better , I will be honest I'm horny all the time I have sent nudes when asked,, I have been sent nudes , there are nudes I don't like ,, the nudes I do like is the whole picture if the whole person even with panties on,, the nudes I don't like are a close up of just one thing not unless its a hot video ,, nudes are BEAUTIFUL if done right

  • If malnourished & obese nudity get promoted as sexy, I will surely get disgusted.

  • @apple1996 I have no idea!! I think Americans, more than anyone! Sadly!
Like you said, not really a surprise, as by your late teens, most have seen both genders nude, and SO WHAT?
I think women are just wonderfully delightful, like exquisite works of Natural art, when in their most true, and nude form!
Maybe that is part of what sooo many hate: being naked, they cannot hide their imperfections and lies?

    • That is definitely a big reason for the hate. They have their own body issues so they hate others that are comfortable with their bodies

    • @apple1996 Kind of Ironic, really, as some of the best looking, of both genders, are the most afraid to show anything! I've had some medical issues over the last year, and been poked and prodded, and naked and probed by doctors and nurses, and at one point, you just don't care anymore, and they are even, sometimes, embarrassed when you just don't care! Like, you've seen it all! Mine is smaller, or bigger (I hope :) ) but nothing 'new'!! Get over this simple shit! I was in the hospital for almost a week, and this little girl, MAYBE 20, at most, came in, and said she was going to help me shower! LOL!! Sorry, I guess you drew the 'short straw' to have to help the 'old guy' shower!! I was more uncomfortable for her, than concerned that she was seeing me naked! LOL!!

    • Yeah I feel you about doctors and nurses seeing it all. I remember when i was in labor with my son and my water broke while a nurses hand was inside me. Litterally about 20 doctors and nurses rushed to me and seen that happening. I was very embarrassed in that moment. After that I stopped caring about who sees me naked.

  • It depens. For me nudity is partly a sexual thing because nudity is mostly presented as a part of sex. In porn and in movies people are mostly presented for sexual reasons. But the main reason is in my view that people get offended because it´s something unnormal. Most people are dressed through the day we don´t go out nude so we are not used to that.

  • You're saying this as though our social structure hasn't systematically policed and sexualized female bodies specifically. Asking this question is asking why society hasn't changed yet, and the reason is very complicated.

  • Bring on nudity

    • Yess! I agree

  • Undressing yourself in public is, literally, a crime.
It's a social norm to be clothed, if someone has troubles following social norms, then there is something wrong with them.

In this particular case, they are exhibitionists who derive gratification from the control that lies in forcing others into viewing them in a sexual context without their consent.
I get offended, because I don't want to be made some kind of an accessory for some creep to get off.
I just deem it a form of sexual violence, which is exactly what it is.

  • Only Americans.

I remember when the nation went nuts over Janet Jackson's nipple. And I didn't get a chance to see nuthin'!!!

  • Those parts of the human body are just too intimate for most people to be comfortable around. Especially in public.

  • I'd say it stems off of personal privacy. But then it's about holding a standard too.

I understand your point that it's not a hard science with a clear reason.

The bible likely talks about covering your body.

The word indecent comes up with nudity too.

It's really taking the time to pull apart of beliefs and values as a society.

I think it goes back to the idea, that this is my private space. My vagina is not yours it is my own.

Coming off of that, one girl/woman made a comfortable standard for herself.

If another woman challenges that standard and right, it challenges her beliefs and values as a woman.

You are basically telling another woman, I don't respect you or what you beileve. Because I think I should be able to do whatever I feel is right for my body.

Saying all this, it is a struggle... A struggle of societies values and beliefs...

That's probably as close as I can get to a reason myself

  • Give me an example?
    Offended isn't the right word.
My girl showing all her intimate parts is intimate to me so if she starts getting naked for people it is a relationship intimacy breach.
If she starts going nude at the beach, poses nude for art classes or stripping... etc. I break up.

    • I wouldn't say showing genitals is anything special like everyone has them. There isn't any good reason to hide them from people. It's just a way of shaming the natural body

    • Well hers are special to me and private. I do not care if all other women have them (besides I do not see every woman's genitals anyway) hers are special to me. If she shows it off for other men, we are done. You sound like you need to join a nudist colony by the way.

    • My guy is the same way. He hates when I show off to others but only if it's a sexually expressive way. If I'm randomly nude he doesn't care. And haha yeah I'd prob fit into one of those

  • A. Because they were raised by inverted biblethumping radicals, B. They associate naturalist with pagon bestiality. C. They are ugly and small down there.

  • Its strange to me I grew up as a nudist and never wore clothes. My mom was very open minded and nudist. Yes I had boners thats just natural so is masterbation and she saw me and my friend masterbating frequently. It was a natural healthy way to grow up without shame!

    • Iam not much comfortable but iam trying to be nude at home.

  • Can't tell. I often aks myself the same question. It's the same with sex. People get way to offended by that. And as you said nudity and sex can be seperat things. I don't get it

    • But a male can't help but get sexually turned on by nude females, it’s jus in our nature, u can’t expect us not to get horny over that So nudity automatically becomes sexual to us Whether your outcome is to jus be natural or not Nudity will always be sexual to the opposite gender or homosexuals

    • I don't agree. I'm sometimes going to these beaches or at least to saune where everyone is nude. I don't get turned on instantly if I enter there. Otherwise every guy there would run around with a boner. I agree that it's a natural thing and nudity often is connected to sexual things. But not always :)

    • @Jjjjgghhh if nudity was normal I think more men wouldn't be getting turned on from seeing naked women

  • Seeing people nude doesn’t bother me. It also doesn’t usually turn me on either just by itself.
