Are birth control pills really affective after just 7 days of use or do you need to continue using a condom?

After 12 days of taking the pill on time is it okay to only use birth control pills to have sex or would you still need a condom? I looked online and it said 7 days but my obgyn said two weeks or Im not sure if she said that is the 7 days true? I took it right away when I started my period I’ve taken 8 pills already it’s been 8 days.

Always follow the directions of your obgyn. They have experience in this matter. Plus it may true 7 days is ok but since you are taking this the first time it may take time for your body adjust to the new hormones. So it may be recommended to go within the 2 weeks rule.

yeah but I dont trust birth control pills. You can easily forget to take them, sometimes they don't work depending on your menstrual cycle. Any alcohol at all can make them useless

I think he wants to do both because he said that he didn’t trust condoms alone. To be honest I’ve never had sex without a condom though but I want to try it at least once when I’m sure that the birth control is active. Birth control is 99 percent affective but condoms are only about 97 percent when used perfectly

Birth control pills are 99 percent effective that’s what I’m saying. And if he fails he’ll have to buy emergency contraceptives on top of birth control. I just want to try it because I’ve never tried it but I want to wait at least a month of being on birth control to try it I don’t trust it right now

typically takes about a month to build up in your system. which means going from one monthly cycle to the next to be safest. but then you'll need to continue taking it afterwards to keep it in your system.

You took it 8 days I would wait 6 more days which would give you 2 weeks or 14 days but to be on the safe side I would wait to day 15 before having unprotected sex without a condom just to be sure things are okay?

You should be safe after 7 days but ask your doctor. I would orgasm inside my girlfriend after 7 days on the pill with no problems. However, do check your pill packet and with your doctor.

Supposedly you’re protected after 7 days with the combination pill but I remember my doctor recommending I don’t have unprotected sex for the first month. I’d follow whatever your obgyn told you.
