How do you feel about visa and Mastercard banning the purchase of pornhub subscriptions?

So people on pornhub were uploading weird shit anonymously, and pornhub made it so you have to verify your identity before you post content now. They attempted to filter these things out, but now they have to step up their security via verification. This upset visa and Mastercard to the extent of banning use of their cards on pornhub.

Personally, this upsets me. The principle upsets me. This is my money, what gives you the right to tell me what I can and can't spend it on. It would be one thing if I were directly purchasing illegal pornography content, but pornhub is not that. They just personally don't agree with how the company didn't prevent this. Mistakes and security breaches happen within any company. This is serious, but it was immediately dealt with.

Again, it's the principle. I had a pornhub account and watched normal porn. Now I can't because Visa and Mastercard have a personal vendetta against pornhub? The CEOs don't have to buy pornhub, but why are they stopping everyone else? People are capable rendering their own judgement on whether or not they give a company money.

This crosses a line, because what happens when they start banning use of other companies they don't agree with? This is why crypto is the future in my opinion. It's our money. Not yours. Don't tell us how to spend it.

  • Tyranny of the private corporations.. if a Government did such a thing you would hear conservatives types screaming socialist communist tyrannical Government and so on but since these are private corporations they bend over and take it like they were trained to do..

    • The government is about the wield the power to do things like this when they introduce the digital dollar. The issue is embedded when we give any entity too much power over our finances. Private or government. The only viable solution I see to avoid these kinds of power grabs is decentralization.

    • @not_average exactly! It is about power and not what type of entity is itself. Desensitization could be the answer to it but carries a host of other issues with it which need to be discussed.. but they can't be discussed properly when there are people denying that it is an issue and will only get worse

    • Yep you get it. You look good by the way. Even with your highly pixelated picture lol

  • I did read about that 15 yr old chick’s selfie video being uploaded and pornhub didn’t do shit. So as a consequence, I’m fine with corporations making PR statements like that. But once pornhub gets its act together and pays the price we should be able to use our CC wherever we want.

  • posted this on a smartphone did you? your whole life is an open book to those that want to snoop

    • That's why I don't expose my personal identity on here. I want to be able to post freely.

    • right... like any external ageny can't link the ip address to you

    • I don’t think I’m that important to external agencies right now lol

  • Visa would sell slaves if they could get away with it, this is likely a business decision related to fraud and security.

  • I've never paid for porn. Jerking off to porn is a giant fail. You do it enough you'll start to believe all that depravity.

  • I agree with you in principle. However, if PornHub is responsible for hosting illegal content (which they have been accused of) then it's a liability for these CC companies.

    • Didn't think about the liability factor.

    • I'd imagine that they wouldn't be liable. Pornhub would, but not visa or mastercard. I don't know the legality surrounding this though.

    • I believe that there's some legal liability that can be taken if you're financially supporting illegal activity. Just like if you were a bank for the mafia or something. I'm too lazy to look up the correct statutes.

  • Stores in person and online don't accept certain credit cards. Hell, my mom's medical office (she is a private practice physician) won't accept Discover or several other credit cards.

  • I get your point, but it's the content creators who are going to suffer the most. I would not be surprised if some jumped platform.

  • Doesn't matter to me either way

  • It's a really good move.

  • when an industry becomes a monopoly they can be sued for behaviour like this. I say sue them
