Why is my friends with benefits lasting so many years?

We’ve been seeing each other for years, just friends with benefits although we hang out outside the bedroom and we know each others friends... we are still having intimate sex after 3 years! He says I love you quite often, I just know I can’t be with him (long story). Why would a man continue for so long? I thought they would get bored with the same partner If it’s friends with benefits... There’s plenty of girls he can have sex with (which he is for sure) I have never been in a situation like this

I've been in relationships that I knew ultimately weren't going to last - most recently one for 4 years - because we had incompatible long-term goals, but we got along great and were highly compatible in the short term. Sometimes, you have to take what you can get, even if you know it won't last. But we held on as long as we could, because it was good while we had it. Ultimately, she moved to the other side of the country as we knew she was eventually going to do, and we ended things amicably.

It sounds like the two of you are a good match in a lot of ways, and bring a lot of happiness and sexual satisfaction to each other, even if you don't have a long-term future. Hard to explain the guy's perspective in this case. Basically if it's going good why break it. And the friends with benefits status enables him to see other girls without the need for guilt or secrecy it's a real benifit no matter how you slice it.

Plus you're his friend as well so there's that. People don't just let go of friends because it's beem years

Because outside of the sex you are good friends and that's separate from that. You get along like just as friends would, you just have sex every now and then.
The fact he says he loves you, think about it, he's having sex with a girl he's attracted to / gets in with and loves, Why would you stop doing that?
