I think so. One of my best guy friends, whom doesn't live nearby, I always flew to visit every now then, like there was a convention in their city we'd go to or some event, so it was rather convenient.

We'd go out and do everything together, I'd stay over at his apartment for days. He always treated me like I was the best thing in the world and there were times we actually joked sexually to each other online, despite being straight. Maybe it was genuine comfort factor, and I don't think he ever had a closer friend.

Just we never had sex, however we had times we both had monogamous girlfriends, so there was probably this angle as well, it'd be cheating. Could we act on it?
