Why is it normal for some cultures to have the grooms mother be in the room during the wedding night to make sure the wife gets pregnant?

well i know mine wouldn't , but if someone mom is in there she might get pregnant as well as if she gonna be there she might as well get some too. again not mine if it was someone elses mom, like the brides, or step mom, lol
