Since "gay pride" is allowed should there be a "straight pride"?

This is not a homophobic gay bashing question because I have nothing against homosexuals but I'm noticing the double standards regarding embracing one's sexuality tend to have always been one-sided that caters to only one group of people.

It seems as if homosexuals are always the ones that needs to "come out if the closet" and announce their sexuality to the world by telling everyone they're gay and they seem to get away with being able to brag about being gay and broadcasting their preferences to the world but if a straight person does it, then it's wrong.

So since "gay pride" is allowed, then there shouldn't be a problem with a "straight pride" without backlash.

If homosexuals should be proud of being gay so should straight people that's my point.

  • I don't see how that's necessary. Straight people weren't murdered for being straight and nobody fears telling their family and friends they're straight, it's just "normal"
I do think it's necessary to have a gay pride just to remind people that embracing your sexuality instead of hiding it is the right thing to do and there's nothing to be ashamed of or afraid of. Everybody should be proud of choosing happiness. To me it makes much more sense to start a "love pride" where straight and gay people march together to show the world that love is love regardless of sex and gender

  • Honestly, I don't think either should be done anymorem at first gay pride was bringing attention to the issue. the attention has been brought, so now it's contradicting the whole "we want to be accepted and treated equal" by having a big celebration of what makes them different?

  • Not "should" but i'd still like to celebrate for fun. It's still a right. Hate it and you'll be just be a big hypocrite.

  • Since straight people have been persecuted for being with someone of the opposite sex?

  • That would be missing the point. Straights face zero adversity or shame for being straight, therefor they don't need to proclaim pride in the fact. The whole point in displaying any kind of pride is in response to the fact that there are people out there who think you should not exist or you should be different from what you are.

  • Every day of the year is straight pride, gay people get one day to celebrate, what's wrong with that?

    • No it's not you loony xD

    • @Nachowedgie yes it is, straight pride is the current cultural hegemony, gay pride exists because it is pushed to the margins on every other day of the year.

    • Again it isn't, but good job loony

  • Homosexuality is not the norm

  • Sure why not

  • Why would you need to be proud that you are straight. Being straight doesn't require a boost, it is the dominant state. Straight people used to burn gay people alive so, context is important.

  • Should you be happy about your orientation. sure

  • Just don't fucking go there "Gay Pride" & "BLM" blah blah blah. Please make it stop frankly and respectfully I've heard enough now. So give it rest.

  • According to the alphabetty spaghetti if you're proud of being straight then you're instantly a homophobe
